WINTER ONCE 1947


Jumpers, darned with wool ,short trousers, patched for school; Shoes scuffed and,left unlaced Teeth framed in metal brace,;dripping noses and chilblains, scarfs and finger mitts and ears muffled against the chill and our free school milk set solid ,on the sill ,and schoolyard ice slides a daily thrill
