The Storm
The Storm
Asleep, dreaming, oblivion,
Then, movement, slight light casting shadows
Again, and again I see light through closed eyes
Then again and again still, each brighter
I stir and listen, silence, then wait, a rumble, and again.
It builds, each clap rolling into the next.
I see flashes, explosions, the cacophony building.
Then wind adds to the calamity.
The house shudders.
Lightening through closed eyes,
Thunder crashing, wind roaring, rain pouring
A cacophony yet,
I lie at peace, warm and dry,
On the other side of my wall,
The gale howls.
Slowly, imperceptibly, the noise fades.
Lightening moves distant too, receding, elsewhere.
Thunder softens to a roar then a growl then a whisper,
Flashes in the distance become dim, then gone.
Silence, serenity then peace.
Asleep, dreaming, then oblivion
