WHEN OUR WORLDS COLLIDE

Verse 1
I would love to be your comfort
A blanket when you're confused
A bright song on every dark day
Warmth and hope you cannot lose

To be the canopy to cover you
When life’s storms come your way
I can be the one you’ve longed for
'Cause I hear the words you don't say

Pre-Chorus
Let the past slip through your fingers
Those old ghosts fade from sight
Take my hand and feel the difference
You're walking into light

Chorus
When our worlds collide, love paints the sky with quiet fire
With colors only born from deep desire
You're safe in my arms, girl, don’t be shy
This is what it means when the night reshapes its light
And your heart finally whispers, “You’re mine”

Verse 2
Your eyes could light the skies tonight
That coy smile, wow... it melts my heart
My guitar plays you sweet love songs
This is our time when true love starts

Bridge
Drift away, lay your fears down
On this shoulder made for you
In the hush, hear my vow, my truth—
Every dream you dream, I’ll pursue

Chorus
When our worlds collide, love paints the sky with quiet fire
With colors only born from deep desire
You're safe in my arms, girl, don’t be shy
This is what it means when the night reshapes its light
And your heart finally whispers, “You’re mine”

Outro
Being with you, I’m filled with wonder
A kiss goodnight, no need to hide
In the morning, I’ll be your first sight
This is how it feels...
When our worlds collide

BEHIND THE SMILE

[Verse 1]
Just another sinking tear
In this river full of pain
Racing fast to nowhere
In a world that’s gone insane
Hope hung herself in silence
Before I got to speak
Now I'm haunted by your absence
And promises too weak

[Pre-Chorus]
They say it gets better
But they never knew the fire
That burned us down forever
Left me buried in the mire

[Chorus]
But it’s alright — you’ll never know
I’m living dead, but I don’t show
Empty words and hollow eyes
Behind this smile, I hide my lies
Yeah, behind this smile... I hide my lies

[Verse 2]
Everyone’s got the answer
But none of them are right
The blind lead the broken
Claiming they’ve found light
Love — a cruel illusion
A fool’s delight, they say
Left me cold and naked
In the night that stole the day

[Pre-Chorus]
They offer silver linings
While I’m drowning in the grey
Their voices can’t reach me
In the wreckage where I lay

[Chorus]
But it’s alright — you’ll never know
I’m living dead, but I don’t show
Empty words and hollow eyes
Behind this smile, I hide my lies
Yeah, behind this smile... I hide my lies

[Bridge – Preserved, Enhanced]
Handcuffed by this culture
To a grave of silent screams
Treading water in the shadows
Of once beautiful dreams
Too far gone to rescue
Too lost to even fight
Alone beneath the surface
Under a waterfall of night

[Final Chorus – Lifted Emotionally]
But it’s alright — you’ll never know
I’m living dead, but I don’t show
These haunted eyes still memorize
Every truth I try to disguise
Behind this smile... I hide my lies
Yeah, behind this smile... I hide my lies.

BEFORE I WAKE

Now I lay me down to sleep
In my home that's really sweet
Had three large meals and a snack
There wasn't a hint of any lack
Comfortable shoes and clothes that fit
My heart's desires my money can get
Friends and family know my name
So many opportunities it's just insane
Doctors and dentists, heat and air
A hope and a future.. No despair
Little chance I'll die before I wake
But if I do, my soul God will take.

But the homeless orphan goes to sleep
His unbathed body on a filthy street
Sold himself today to get a meal
From a slimy stranger with a dollar bill
No life, no skills, no future, no hope
No family, no friends, no heat, no coat
No shelter, no job, no doctor, no care
No money, no support, no help anywhere
Despair and neglect, a fight to survive
A shell of a child more dead than alive
And if this orphan dies before he wakes
Will he know my God his soul to take?

~Lyric Man

Note: Just returned from two weeks in Africa. I’ve seen the most amazing and the most tragic sights. This poem/prayer is a contrast of a typical western lifestyle to that of a fatherless orphan.

PS-I’ve basically been without internet for the past two weeks and have missed reading your poetic works. May you and I never take take for granted all the blessings that we have been afforded!

ALWAYS

[Verse 1]
Yeah... I pretend I’m your man
You roll your eyes, but still take my hand
I laugh, “Girl, you're always hangin' around”
You just wink, like love doesn’t need a sound

So clear—love’s eyes can see
A fire we swore would fade? Never
Let’s imagine, you and me
Writing poems that live forever

[Pre-Chorus]
I get by just thinking it’s real
In your arms, girl, it's fate I feel

[Chorus]
'Cause I can't go on
There’s no tomorrow
If I’m alone
Breathing through the sorrow
Breathe into me
Tell me it’s true
Don’t let me be the fool
Who believed in “me and you”

[Verse 2]
Just love me now, through eternity
We could be something real, you and me
This feeling won’t be chained or tamed
A love like this can’t be unnamed

Can’t you see? I want to be
More than just a fantasy
We could turn this dream to truth
There’s a world for me and you

[Pre-Chorus]
Don’t need the world to understand
I just need you to take my hand

[Chorus]
'Cause I can't go on
There’s no tomorrow
If I’m alone
Breathing through the sorrow
Breathe into me
Tell me it’s true
Don’t let me be the fool
Who believed in “me and you”

[Bridge]
In a place where time stands still
Hearts can mend and dreams can fill
I’ve seen stars align before
Maybe love will open the door
To a place…
To a place called Always

[Final Chorus]
'Cause I can't go on
There’s no tomorrow
If I’m alone
Still breathing through the sorrow
So breathe into me
Whisper it’s true
Don’t let me be the fool
Who still believes in “me and you”

[Outro]
No, I don’t want to pretend
But I can’t let this end
So tell me it’s true
Say I’m not dreaming...
There’s a me and you...
There’s a me and you...
Gotta be… in a place called Always

WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE

What would it be like to love you
To know much more than just your name
Your poetic lines are heart magnets
Thoughts of you are driving me insane

What would it be like to hold you
[Verse 1]
What would it be like to love you,
To know your heart, not just your name?
Your words are like magnetic poetry,
And thoughts of you are driving me insane.

[Pre-Chorus]
What would it be like to hold you,
To dance beneath the silver moon,
Feel your breath upon my skin,
Look in your eyes, and lose myself within.

[Chorus]
What would it be like to kiss you,
To feel the spark that could ignite the night?
Could we erase the doubts we’ve known,
And take a chance on what could feel so right?
Oh, what would it be like...
To love you...

[Verse 2]
What would it be like to tell you,
All these thoughts, and a thousand more?
Should I risk this poetic friendship,
And knock upon your heart’s closed door?

[Pre-Chorus]
What would it be like to hold you,
To dance beneath the stars so true,
Feel your touch, soft on my skin,
Lose myself in the world we're living in.

[Chorus]
What would it be like to kiss you,
To feel the spark that could ignite the night?
Could we erase the doubts we’ve known,
And take a chance on what could feel so right?
Oh, what would it be like...
To love you...

[Bridge]
What if the world is waiting for us?
What if we fall and don’t regret it?
What if this moment is our time,
To say goodbye to all the "what if’s" and just climb?
In your arms, the world feels light,
Let’s take a leap into the night.

[Chorus]
What would it be like to kiss you,
To feel the spark that could ignite the night?
Could we erase the doubts we’ve known,
And take a chance on what could feel so right?
Oh, what would it be like...
To love you...

[Outro]
What would it be like…
Oh, what would it be like…
To love you…

SHE LEFT ME BREATHLESS

[Setting The Stage]
She slides in, like that sax riff you can’t forget
Red lipstick chipped—like she just laughed at a secret
Heels clicking on the cracked tile floor
Every head turns, mine stumbles like it’s sore
She shoots me a look—wait, was that a grin?
Freeze up, heart racing—Gucci aisle, where to begin?

[Excitement Builds]
She floats like she’s walking on spilled moonlight
And I’m gasping like I just ran through a midnight fight

[Tension Builds]
You got me breathless, girl, no doubt
One glance and my soul wants to shout
Are you even looking? Should I stand tall?
Did I drool? Yep… real smooth, that’s my downfall
Can’t find my voice, spine’s turned to jelly
You leave me breathless, like a clumsy alley

[No Clue]
Your hair’s a slow-mo movie scene
I try to play it cool—trip over a magazine
You bite your lip, I swear you winked
Brain’s out cold, and my pits have stinked
She’s walking right here—what do I say?
“Hey” or just pray that I don’t slip away?

[Poetic Panic]
You’re a sonnet wrapped in silk and smoke
I’m a guy who just spilled coffee on his coat

[Party Panic]
Should I flex? Or just look like a fool?
Why’d I pick these socks that don’t match my shoes?
She’s Venus, ready to destroy
And I’m an old Game Boy with no joy

[Regroup]
You got me breathless, fried and shook
Practiced this moment—forgot the look
You’re heading this way, yeah, I’m on track
Ready to shine… if I don’t crack
Jaw’s dropping, heart’s out of line
You leave me breathless, every single time

[Bridge Over Troubled Waters]
She’s closer now, eyes locked on mine
Heartbeat’s racing, out of time
Hips sway like a jazz solo
Is this fate? Or just a cruel show?
I smile, nod, brace for the dive
She’s ten feet… five… oh no, survive!

She walks…
Right past me.
Turns...
Wraps her arms around Bond. James Bond.
Suit crisp, smile sharp as a knife
Hairline sharp enough to cut life
He winks at me
I just nod… and wheeze

[Crushing Close]
You got me breathless, but not the way I hoped
Misread the script, my heart just choked
You’re a queen in heels, and me? I tried
But 007’s got your side
Still can’t breathe, still can’t shine
You leave me breathless… but you weren’t mine

[He’s Whipped]
(Breathless…)
Not the hero in this scene, huh?
(Bond guy probably buys lotion…)
Still breathless…
And sweating like I ran a marathon uphill...

Note: Grateful for an 3rd place finish in the "Breathless" Contest.
Perfect ambiance in this crowded room

WHEN SHE SAYS MY NAME

[Verse 1]
Been walkin’ through a year of Sundays
Sky don’t talk, just sits and stares
Then her scented note came down like summer rain
Didn’t say much, but it caught me unprepared
I wasn’t askin’ for a reason
Wasn’t lookin’ to be saved
Just closed my eyes ‘cause I was tired
And there she was—sayin’ my name

[Pre-Chorus]
It was barely even written
Just a few lines and then her name
But it landed like a whisper
After weeks of nothin’ but blame

[Chorus]
When she says my name
It don’t fix the cracks
But it quiets the room
And the weight pulls back
Like the night she called me
When the heat wave finally broke
Her voice—low and real
Made me think there might be hope

[Verse 2]
I don’t know if she’s the real thing
Or just someone who saw through
But she talks like she’s been wounded
Like she’s got old battles too
I wanna tell her I believe her
But most days I don’t trust sound
Still… her name comes in like morning
When the dark’s still hangin’ ‘round

[Pre-Chorus 2]
And I ain’t tryin’ to be rescued
Not sure I even could be
But if she’s still reachin’
Maybe there’s still some of me

[Chorus]
When she says my name
It don’t make me whole
But I swear it slows
This outta-control
Like a porch light flickin’
Through the rain and the smoke
Yeah… I step toward that
Even if it’s just a joke

[Bridge]
I’ve been lied to in poems
And fooled by my own lines
So maybe I’m holdin’ back
Just to feel some control this time
But if she’s more than a moment
If this ain’t just pretend
Then let her voice be the start
Of something that don’t end

[Final Chorus]
When she says my name
It ain’t some grand thing
It’s soft… like truth
With a little sting
Like a window opening
In a house I thought was sealed
And I lean into it
Just to feel something real

One Demo Remaining

Wake up every morning,
Knowing it will be the same;
Feel an endless longing,
Inside a rage that can't be tamed.
Haunted in my thinking,
I let my big chance pass;
And with it all believing,
That my song would always last.

Invited to 'The Boot' to hear a band,
Saw a flicker of what I used to be;
A young man lost in his music,
Yesterday that man was me.
I remember making melodies,
The world was in my hands;
But it slipped through my fingers,
I had to grow up and be a man.

Let my hopes just fly away,
All my dreams of entertaining;
Now I'd give any thing to know,
There's still one dream remaining.

Sitting at this restaurant patio,
The guitar's magic in his hands;
His voice is smooth and effortless,
Oh how I wish I was that man.
The joy of being lost in the music,
Alive, young at heart, and free;
The tapping feet and smiling faces,
To see how good your song can be.

Let inhibition just fly away,
He lives the dream of entertaining;
Looks out at the admiring crowd,
Says I got one demo remaining.

Play your songs for all their worth,
Never let them go;
The world is your audience,
Give them your best show.
Don't let your chance pass you by,
You can't stop believing;
Life is in the music,
And love is in the feeling.

Let inhibition just fly away,
I took the one demo remaining;
My soul moved by the music,
Tonight my dream reclaiming!

~Lyric Man

Note: When I was a young musician I had an old guy in the crowd who was really into our set. On a break, he told me that he was just like me years earlier. But he listened to voices telling him he had to grow up and let his dream go. This song is through his eyes. Never let anyone take your dreams. They are real. And they are the secret to really living!!

EVERYTHING BUT YOU

[Verse 1]
I’ve arrived — big lights and a blacked-out car,
Backstage passes and a six-string star.
Crowds go wild when I hit that chord,
I’m livin’ the dream I used to pray for.
I got gold records, a house with a view…
I’ve got everything —
Everything but you.

[Verse 2]
They scream my name, wear my T-shirts proud,
Sing every word, get lost in the sound.
Yeah, I’ve got charm, and I’ve got game,
But none of these girls feel quite the same.
They don’t know the way you used to do —
I’ve got everything...
Everything but you.

[Chorus]
Oh, I’d trade it all — the stage, the fame,
The sold-out nights and my rising name.
Every single song that ever came true,
Ain’t worth half a minute back with you.
Yeah, I made it — that much is true...
But what’s everything
Without you?

[Verse 3]
I see your face in the front row lights,
In every shadow, you're haunting my nights.
The way you laughed, how you held me near,
It echoes inside, but you’re never here.
All the glitz and glam can’t fill the void,
Just a fading memory I can’t enjoy.

[Chorus]
Oh, I’d trade it all — the stage, the fame,
The sold-out nights and my rising name.
Every single song that ever came true,
Ain’t worth half a minute back with you.
Yeah, I made it — that much is true...
But what’s everything
Without you?

[Bridge]
There are nights when the stars, they shine so bright,
But they dim when I’m here, alone in the light.
Riches surround me, but they don't feel right,
'Cause all of this love is lost in the night.

[Chorus]
Oh, I’d trade it all — the stage, the fame,
The sold-out nights and my rising name.
Every single song that ever came true,
Ain’t worth half a minute back with you.
Yeah, I made it — that much is true...
But what’s everything
Without you?

[Outro]
So here I stand, with my heart exposed,
A tale of a man who had it all — but closed.
I'll keep singing these songs, it’s all I can do,
I’ve got everything —

DANCING GOODBYE

(First two lines spoken)
The point of no return, as I took your hand
Out on the dance floor, would I be your man?

I took a chance, told you how I feel
Laid it all down, no cards to conceal
This wasn’t the plan—meant to dance slow
But holdin’ you close, girl, I had to know

I let the truth fall from my lips
Hopin' love would catch the slips

I took a chance, let my secrets fly
Your eyes said it all—we're dancin’ goodbye
This wasn’t the dream when I said, "I love you"
I pictured you smiling, sayin’, "I love you too"

You're in my arms, and I’ve no regrets
We still got this song—it’s not over yet
So I close my eyes, dream sweet romance
Time stands still... and I’m glad I took a chance

Maybe someday, you'll think of this night
How the stars leaned in, how the world felt right
But if all I get is this final dance
I'll still be thankful I took that chance

I took a chance, let my heart be true
Now I’m just dancin’ the last steps with you
You're not sayin' much, but your silence is loud
We're swayin' through goodbye in the arms of the crowd

Yeah, I took a chance, now the moment’s past
But for one slow song… I held love at last
It wasn’t forever—but girl, it was real
I took a chance… and I learned how love feels

Note: I wanted to write a little song about a guy who took a chance, made himself vulnerable, telling a girl how he feels about her... and without a word being spoken he knows they are dancing goodbye. And yet, he can live in the now and just for the moment.. focus on the girl in his arms!

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
