Darren White Poem
Voice: Jason Williams
***
I danced!
Whirling air around me, particles of sundust
in tornadoes and hurricanes following me in awe
I danced.
Each night I wake and feel my legs
The ones that once carried me and jumped so high
The ones that took me away from a world I didn't want to be in
Creating a dream,
I danced.
The music colouring a world with brushes and pencils
With moves and muscle, practice and pirouette
A world I thought no one could take away
I danced.
When my eyes are closed I dance
My mind paints my body whole and healed
A unicorn, a world of faeries, a galloping horse
A world of dreams, veiled and away from hurt
I live again
I live
I don't dance anymore
But I write. My words, my lines, they carry me now
My legs are useless, my arms and emotions
Carry me
So....
I dance again, in words
I dance.

Darren White Poem
I am the diamond
that breathes
in your hands;
The fine lace to sway in
breezes through windows
as I crumble dedans la pirouette;
The cyclone, the earthquake,
implosion of power
in your arms.
Spin me a room,
Weave me a rainbow,
Pull me to you and
push me away.
Burn me, absorb me.
I tumble, trip, fall,
to be lifted by you,
elevated, levitated;
Finest rags, softest fringe,
ripple around
last evening light;
Raise me slowly
on tiptoes;
Rescue me, scream my name
loud.
Spin me your laughter,
Catch me, don't drop me,
Pull me to you,
never push me away.
Dance, don't stop.
Never stop.

Darren White Poem
I speak my thoughts with gentleness
The things I need to say with care
Thoughts held in my hands, gone through my fingers,
balanced on my fingertips...
... sent to my lips.
I speak my words with thoughtfulness
from my faltering tongue
The air swaying rippling with
meaningful sound
I speak my words out loud, they land
where I want them to bloom
Sometimes as small white daisies
Other times as beautiful blue thistles
or roses.
I watch them grow, my eyes follow their
independent will and stubbornness
With pride I stretch my hands
to pick them and arrange...
They grew on me.

Darren White Poem
Perception
while djinnis cackle
I craft poetry
in this room
with both hands tied
I compose
on white walls
with an imaginary blue pen

Darren White Poem
Speak in my dark night
Color your quiet words
without sight
Touch my wide open eyes
without tears, my mouth
without tongue,
No words, no sorrow, no cries
leave your lips, no sound
bounces around
One time I walked, my words
had volume, they were proud
to share me
The hollow sound will echo
in my head, be savoured on
my lips
I came you went, nobody
and everybody passed
through me
If you say I am, I will be again
speak my name and I exist
in you

Darren White Poem
(For my friend Aisling: da'iman 'amal)
In the night that runs on fear, smile at me.
When nightmares haunt, laugh at me.
When demons show their ugly masks, beam at me.
And always, ever have hope.
When your head is so full it cascades, stare at stars.
As thoughts spill ferociously, softly seek them.
Forget thousands of misplaced words, see glimmers
Of hope, always have hope.
Days where you can't hear your thoughts, listen to music.
Minutes failing to making sense, immerse in singing.
'Seconds' a word without meaning, tune in harmony.
Believe in hope, there always is hope.
When nothing rhymes, you almost lose it,
In darker days, you cannot meet it,
In doubt, despair, or anger, it will elope,
But it will return, not ever lose hope!

Darren White Poem
There is a bridge, it crosses over deserts
It cements oceans, binds the icy seas
Flies over fiery vulcans, sings melodious
Breathes over you a cooling welcome song
A bridge that binds where first was separation
Oblivious to race, beliefs, or sex.
Does not care for timidity, bravado
And all it sees is sheer humanity
This bridge is art, its splendor shines in silence
Its poetry is love, its words seduce
This bridges arms wrap tightly 'round who needs it
And on this bridge we feast in harmony
Let's fill a glass, cheers to fraternization
To poetry as art that builds this bridge
'Tween worlds and people, far away and near
To friendship, love, and friends so very dear.

Darren White Poem
Fly so fast, cry for wind
Carry me between your wings
Me, me, tiny, olive skinned
Blood of beggars, blood of kings
Lost forever, never found
Roar your cry across the land
Where the road once walked and wound
Stranded in mountains of sand
Clamp your claws around my waist
‘till my harness groans and falls
You will hold my torso raised
You, impenetrable wall
No giant strong enough to win
Or to grab us from the sky
No demon vile, no sinner's skin
No Cyclops to burn us with his eye
Fly my Harpy, take our dreams
Kill the bad, the hurt, the sad
Cherish fragile shining beams
Screech seductively and glad
Fly so fast, cry for wind
Carry me, my love, your wings
Me, me, tiny, olive skinned
You and me are blood of kings

Darren White Poem
The thing with giving is Expectation...
The treasure of giving is the giving itself without expecting anything in return.
A loan creates dependency, inequality.
***
I
bend over
and kiss you
while you are sleeping
The fragrance of your
helpless frailty
Softness of your skin
I cherish
I
rub this balm in the
palms of my hands
to warm it, to give you
pause of sickness
softness without pain
And I lift you against me
Gently
I
Smile in your ear
You whisper soft tufts
of warm air in my neck
You give me the gift
of tenderness
You
expect nothing in return
I only ask to be here, with
you, I give you my life
to love you
forever

Darren White Poem
You lost my life.
Sharp as a knife...
You lost a lot of things.
Your memory in my heart
Still sings...
Today I gave you my secrets,
All of them, the ones from Egypt,
And those from Europe, slow motion
Swimming away across the Ocean.
I whispered in your ear
All you didn't want to hear.
And...
I forgive you,
I forgive you.
The secrets of the life stolen
While you screech, eyes swollen
With tears of loss.
Both of us kneeling on moss;
I am not cruel, only want your love,
That one word you get so sick of.
But...
I will always forgive you,
I will always forgive you.
Buried so deep inside,
Almost a stone I tried to hide.
I'll always be that seeking child
That wants to be reconciled.
I lost you before I was born.
Before I even opened my eyes
I was forlorn.
