Retirement

quietly (reflecting)
each moment that you've spent

touching our lives
     with wisdom
                 (rest
                  now,

                          peaceful and content).

your task here
     is completed
a new one has begun

take hold of life
     and live it
     ever facing towards the sun!

                                    Shadow

Military Wife

Nights alone without you
are unbearable for me.

I'd love to hug and kiss you,
hold you body close to mine
and whisper ooh so softly
I'm so glad that you are mine!

Moments spent together are few
and far between.
But in nights quiet moments
you are there within my dreams.

                                  Shadow

Midnight Man

Hold me in your arms tonight
and let me listen to the band
You help to take my blues away
my loving midnight man.

So come to me
my midnight man
come save me if you can
From all my mind confusion
  i've yet to understand.

I'll give my hand
and dance with you
and
watch the hours fly
and when our time is over
please excuse me if i cry.

Your eyes are soft and loving
and you try to understand
how I can be here
   holding you
when married to another man.

You see
my heart is hurting
and
I'm tired of the fight
so i'll do my best to make it
within your arms tonight.

And when the dance is over
and the house brings up the lights

I'll let you go my midnight man
and
continue
in my plight.

                                    Shadow

Your Old Flannel Shirt

your so warm against my body
i need to feel you wrapped around me on those cold night
when
nothing
is going right
and the world is lonely
for me
and full of strangers
who
use me
or
intrude on my life.
when you're around me the world just
m
  e
    l
     ts away
and i sleep
knowing that you are there to comfort me
i can hold you
all
night and know that i am SAFE
from the evils lurking about.

you're always there
letting me be whatever i need to be
all those times when my tears
covered you
when
my mind was confused
and
my heart was broken
you were always there
without question
to keep me
warm and safe.

MAYBE
when time has past
a year or two from now
and you
are
old
and
worn
with nothing left of your being
but perhaps
a button
i will be ok
and the world
won't seem
such a hard place to
live
anymore!
                                    Shadow

Coyote

you and i
so different, yet alike.

you, with your crazy jazz,
abstract art
and football Sundays.

and me

nothing but elevator music
and dizzy ideas i've yet to make sense of.
attempting to understand
your jazz
and abstract art.

i doubt i'll ever understand football
but i love to win!

such funny lovers
you and i
yet
in your arms i find a peace i'd thought had long since left me.

your lips are sweet wine and your voice gentle to my ears.

both of us
searching
reaching out
for something or someone

no
strings
please

but
i love you coyote.

as much as i can

for
me.

                                    Shadow

E

lying here alone, my thoughts again turn to you.
where are you now, this very minute,
     are you thinking of me?
do your arms feel as empty as mine?

where do we go from here my love?
you live so far away from me and i from you.
how do you build on dreams so very far away?

the only thing we hold, other than dreams are phone receivers.
it's not the "next best thing to being there", it's only
a reminder
of how damn lonely being in love can be!

i need you here, with me, not for just one weekend every month
or two, but daily.
waking up each morning, side by side.

i think i could make it if you were here, beside me..........
why aren't you?

                            Shadow

Empoverished

bricks
neatly stacked
(just) a means to an end

(waiting)
     wondering
how long it will take (for love)
(to)
complete the wall
ending the warmth
the need,
                 to care

to love (die)
i cry
and
watch.

                                 Shadow

No String Attached

(no) day has passed
night
so long ending
i have not thought of you.

a (string) of hope
to rest upon,
so gentle
and so true.

(attached) by dreams
you held me close
reinforced by bears of blue
and as each day ended,
my thoughts
returned
                         to you.

my cards and gifts have all returned
sitting still at friendships door,
secured by strings
which now begin
                          u n r a v e l i n g
                                             upon
                                                    my floor.

and i the unknown player
         stare
                            in disbelief.

alone i sit in silence,

alone i sit with grief.

                                    Shadow

Our Spirits Dance

lying here
     bodies entwined
our spirits dance
your pain and
                   sorrow
gone.

above this earthly planet we play
dancing to music few can hear.

your very presence EXCITES me
beyond
          human explanation.

my soul speaks softly to yours
in words
i
must hold silent.

for now it is enough
to let
our spirits
have
this dance.

Fogerty Creek

standing here at waters edge
           it beckons........
                                 enter
feeling the power of each wave
           hit my body
peeling away each layer
           of my soul
                         my very being!

(how) magnificent and (frightening) this power
                         to consume
                              to take me
from that place filed with pain and sorrow.

i drift..........................
                                 to another shore
a star in the distance guides me
       perhaps,
my sweet baby girl calls to me.

the roar.................so LOUD
          thoughts fade into the nothingness
                (my life has become)
                        VOID of passion!

dreams once held me afloat as i weathered the storms
           now they (release me)
                  to my sadness
the (Phantom) no longer waits..................
freedom from pain is at hand
     sorrow no longer mine,
                                     has moved on
perhaps to him....... where no forgiveness was shown!

my battle ends and his begins.

                    a treasure lost at sea!

                                    Shadow
