Giftedness

GIFTEDNESS

What did you do
With what I gave you?

Pop music superstar
NASA space engineer
Brown’s Auto service manager
Stylist at Julie’s Hair and Nails
Mom and Pop’s Diner waitress
Church choir director

Talent, ability, giftedness
From a simple smile
To directing a nation
All mankind has been given
Good to share with others
Gifts freely bestowed on us
By our gracious Creator

The power to choose
How we will use
God’s gifts
For good or for evil
Is the responsibility
Each of us carries
One day we will
Face our Creator
To give an answer
But the motive of our heart
Is the key

My Girl

MY GIRL

Lazy summer days
Pigtails, French braids
Long silky hair blowing
In the wind
Days forever gone
Tears well up in my eyes
And I long once again
To hold her close
To see her smile
To hear her laughter
Tinkle like rain

Lord, shower down from heaven
Encouraging words of
Together we will be
In that glorious place
A world without pain
Hearts completely healed
Memories of yesterday
Live on today
Hope of a tomorrow
Full of promise

Choice

CHOICE

“Grandpa”, “ Will you go to church
with us tomorrow?” She sweetly asked.
“Oh, uh, me? Oh, no, I never go to church.”
“But it’s Easter Sunday”, she prompted.
“You know, I probably shouldn’t be
eating this much spaghetti. Pass me
some bread, will you?” He said.

How many Easter Sundays
Have passed by this man
It saddens me so
Not so much to have missed
An Easter Sunday at church
But to have missed out on
A lifetime of peace
Existing without God’s presence
To pass each day
Rejecting his love

My heart cries out for him
And for the many others
Who still remain blinded
By their own pride
Deceived by the evil one
But I refuse to give up
I will not end my prayers here
For as long as there is breath
I will pray
Hopeful, believing that
One day soon
He too will choose
To be free
But knowing that it is
His choice alone
Keeps me on my knees

Regret

REGRET

Angry words spoken
In a heated moment
Cut like ice
Chilling the bone
And scarring the soul
Can’t take them back
Or erase the sting

Can you receive
Softly spoken words
Of repentance?
To trust again
Is not easy

Decisions made in haste
Lived out with regret
Joy is abandoned
Only despair
Covers the soul
And obscures our dreams
With hopelessness
Suppressed longings
Lie hidden under
Layers of self-contempt

Can you receive
A divine solution
To free the soul
Of its’ delusion?
To believe again
Is not so easy

Beauty for ashes
If we can receive

Erasing Doubt

ERASING DOUBT

I feel your love
Erasing all doubt~
How do you care
About even the small matters
Of my life
When you are God Most High?
I’m overcome
By your tender care~
You who would have
Taken your own son’s place
Selflessly you gave up
What you held most dear
Because I am to you
So dear

In the Name of God

IN THE NAME OF GOD

So much is said and done
In the name of God
For good, for evil
To give credit or blame

Who are we to use
The name of the Holy One
God Most High
To explain our own actions
Which may be righteous
Or on the contrary
Only a deception
Of what is truly
The will of God

Care must be taken
To avoid misrepresenting
The Creator
Judgment for idle words
Abusing one another
And God’s name
His character defamed

Lies believed brings destruction upon many
Ignorance rules in the heart of
The unredeemed, the unrenewed
Even the knowledgeable
Often lack sound judgment
But in the end
God will not be mocked
And His truth
Will be evident to all

Memories

MEMORIES

In a moment’s time
I remember
I retrace the steps
In my mind
The memories stay with me
A part of who I am

Some make me falter
Stifled emotions welling up within
Some bring comfort
A soft warm blanket
Protecting me from the bitter cold
Others bring a certain sadness
Grievous pain somewhat dulled
By the years

Lord, bring your complete healing
To this fragile being
Come mend my soul
With you healing oil

Memories still resonate within
But now strength flows through me
Producing a river of joy
In my soul

Trust

TRUST

Tenaciously clinging to hope
Resting assured
Unwavering
Surrendered to His will
Timeless endurance

Worry
has no place here
On the bridge
 between
Prayer and desire…

Forgotten

FORGOTTEN

Marking time
With the church bell chimes…
How long will I be
Abandoned here?
Fighting a sense of hopelessness
Despair closes in
Will I ever be free again?
Brokenness or bitterness
Will be spelled out with time
As I struggle with
Complete surrender to
Your will
Trusting You to make me
Truly free

The soul can be
Imprisoned or free
In the slums of Calcutta
Or in the lap of luxury
I am imprisoned until
Being with You
Becomes more important
Than the freedom
That awaits me
Outside these bars of iron

Recuerdos

RECUERDOS

Es el otoño de nuevo…
Me quedo quieta
Escucho el canto de un pájaro
Siento la brisa fresca
Veo unas hojas de colores ardientes
Cayendo lentamente al suelo

Me acuerdo de otros otoños
Algunos frios y lluviosos
Otros soleados y callados
Año trás año repite el cuento
De la muerte y el renacimiento
De la naturaleza y de las esperanzas
De las promesas todavía no cumplidas

Me quedo asombrada
Al imenso mundo
Y a la grandeza de nuestro Creador
Es otoño de nuevo…
