Blood, Flesh and Bones

O, for thy blessed skin, draping thy torso
Radiating key images to beholder’s sight ‘n mind
Acuities thus forged, save for the blind
Launching love at first sight

Much like hair, eyes, nose, lips
Whose contours spark admiration, adoration
Forsaking traits of souls laying buried deep
Worthy of love ‘n awe for all eternity

For doth the skin ‘n exteriors
Not speak to us or those espying
Forcing choices ‘pon us
Via seeing, not feeling nor sensing?

Yet beneath them all lie our vitals
Blood all infusive, red for all
Raw flesh, in glistening pinks
White fat streaking ‘tween stacks of flesh

Deep lie the bones, white ‘n firm
Body’s scaffold, same for all
After death, remain for millennia, then some
Betraying neither clan, tribe nor race

Yet ‘tis the skin ‘n façades
That push us to love or scorn
Redeem or rebuke, reject or abet
Enacting blanket measures

Punishing for being ‘n traits inborn
They as choiceless as we, yet ‘tis bile we pick
For the power we have, the power they don’t
‘N all for traits no more ‘n skin deep

We speak of them in cursory tones
Yet ‘tis more ‘bout us bereft of epiphanies
Judging them as though we knew
Little did we know, ‘tis our souls we reprove

Yet beneath all anatomy, resides the unseen
Defining our humanity, our core
That amorphous, transcendent, colorless yet real
Soul, spirit, essence, kernel

Where love and pain vie, for the heart’s space
If life’s to have meaning ‘n gist
Must cleanse itself of all rancor
For love ‘n honor to prevail, our crux to occupy

Then gods we invoke
Of love we claim they be
But only us does s/he cherish
The rest can vanish or perish

‘Tis claimed hell awaits, those not of us
That gods will save us
Not them with skins to loathe
Gods that peep no deeper than our own eyes can

What’s honestly to be made of such gods?

Anonymous

Blossomed solitary, a flower unseen
Colors missed; hues ignored
Fragrances ne'er sniffed
Scattered into emptiness

By planters 'n florists
Makers unmaking their creatures
Leaving them derelict
Forlorn in a floral paradise

Alone inside a packed bouquet
Kindred flowers, strangers by design
Precious little to share
Save for empty stares

Wickedlandia

Wickedlandia Where evil reigns, ‘n willful blindness is sovereign Callousness, insouciance, cruelty shall reign Decency, empathy, honor, integrity feigned Citizens merrily fawn, whose rulers they cheerily deign In the valley of tyrants, heroes are vanished Comrades betrayed; poor souls fully famished Cores on the line, honor ‘n status blemished Never to be kings where pain is relished Lives now virtual Justice purely fractional Empathy ever minimal Dreams turned frugal Windbags at the helm, demons at the switch Sheeple on the rise, brains unhitched By media all bewitched Sound wisdom all but ditched Fake vows aplenty, egos galore Phony smiles, for self to adore Millions to swindle, billions thrown offshore Freedom’s the mantra, but serfdom’s the core Justice for sale, democracy forced abroad For lives in the millions, made homeless and chain-sawed Grizzly scenes, for amusement to be showed Raw power displayed for patriots to be awed At home bias’s the norm, for ours all’s just fine Others free to grieve, provided they’re not mine Health and schooling in plain decline Human rights’ our game, as we play divine God is power that is ever right Others must worship, surrender to our might Lest they try, how futile their fight! God’s wrath awaits, to blow them out of sight Robbers of esteem, killers of hope Governors of moral squalor, on highs sans dope Prattle awash, empty souls on downward slope Miracles reserved, for those who cope

Asleep

When you fell asleep and forgot to hush the light
Your being radiated pure beauty, your essence in calm repose
When you were asleep, your full hair flooded the pillows
Adding gracious wildness to a beauty unequalled
When you were asleep leaving me to ponder your innocence
Behold, an angelic child was born and a life renewed
When you fell asleep the flowers awakened, unveiling your purity
Every part of your torso, a feast of visual delights
When you were asleep your fragrances imbued my being
With divine perfumes that I inhaled down to my core
When you fell asleep, mountains moved, inviting us to scale their heights
Floating royally in states of suspended timelessness
In your sleep, your heart was wide open
Eyes gently closed
When you were asleep the music of love hits crescendo
Calling me to dance, holding your being, aloft with the dancing stars
Enveloping my being wishing you stayed asleep
When you were asleep the soft music of your breathing enraptured
Releasing a fragrance uniquely yours
When you were asleep your slumber proclaimed a tenderness
As the symphonies of the crickets rang
When you were asleep you granted me the freedom of
Admiring the work of art in my presence
When you wake up, I will sing you tales of your slumber
Knowing that love will remain, with you asleep or wide awake
