The Empty Vase
You will never know how it felt that day When you finally chipped the last piece away The final blow, when I had nothing left to give You took it all and laughed away the years No respect for those I held dear The words of love you uttered meant nothing So here I stand the empty vase I smile and nod politely but no emotion do I feel Where there was pain only numbness lays now Unfeeling nothingness dwells where faith and love once resided Ungiving, uncaring I feel nothing for you now No guilt or shame of who I am Maybe one day my heart will renew itself Right now I just want to focus on the lives I brought into this world They deserve better and that’s what I will give A fathom of love and devotion I deflect your hate for me from around them And hope to teach them a better way
