What Is It About Stars
What is it about stars Suspended in the seemingly endless Canopy of a late night sky That fills us with such wonder when We think we know everything that has ever been Revealed through science and books Of knowledge beyond the wildest imaginations Of all those who came before us and left Their marks of existence and humanity Like flickering flames of candle lights extinguished Long ago? I wonder if we’ve become a little Too smart for our own good thinking Because we know so much about the universe now That there’s not much left to discover and perhaps We should close the doors to exploration and our eyes And wait for the ever expanding cosmos to collapse Into the next Big Bang when we’ll all just stick our heads Into the sands of time waiting to be devoured By a colossal, hungry black hole until we find ourselves Right back where we started from. Looking in the mirror, I notice I’ve grown younger than I once was And am smiling now knowing everything I was taught in school is upside down and inside out Because the likes of Newton, Einstein, Armstrong And a countless host of others lived laser-like Focused in their pursuits of wondering: What is it about stars?
