The Game of Life
No one asked me if I’d like to play, they just dealt me a hand anyway. Said I could learn as I played along. So when I plopped down the ace of spades, they said a ten’s what I should’ve played. So I guess I’d learned the rules all wrong. I said, it’s the best card there can be. They said unless you’re born before three, on a Wednesday in the pouring rain. Seems every time I try hard to win, I will only lose my way again. This game of life’s driving me insane. Chorus: When it comes to living, looks like I lose again. In this life if you don’t cheat, then you’re never going to win. Hard work and honesty, ain’t gonna get you there. If you end the game face down, no one’s even going to care. They said boy, I guess it’s a real shame, that you don’t know the rules of the game. They slapped my back and said with a smile. Don’t make a tinker’s damn anyway, you’re wrong no matter which one you play. The rules keep on changing all the while. Repeat Chorus: When it comes to living, looks like I lose again. In this life if you don’t cheat, then you’re never going to win. Hard work and honesty, ain’t gonna get you there. If you end the game face down, no one’s even going to care. Yea, they slapped my back and said with a smile. Boy, don’t you know the rules keep on changing all the while.
