Pondering Tulips
Pondering tulips She pondered a tulip, its petals a’ gleam, on a path through the forest, alongside a stream When the trees started smiling, her heart skipped a beat, as the ferns whispered softly, their message discreet, In echoes of wishes, her first to her last, she stared at a toadstool, the shadow it cast The sun moved along, shimmered bright in the sky as afternoon sparkled, a glint in her eye Alone in the twilight, she danced in a whirl, with hair golden blonde and it’s end in a curl The cattails were singing, their own special song, inviting her nicely to come sing along And together they sang, a most wonderful tune That reached to the stars, and circled the moon I watched from a hedgerow, trimmed neat like a box I felt I was hiding, as sly as a fox It’s then that she saw me, our eyes came to meet I thought she was pretty, her giggle so sweet But, quick as I saw her, as quick she was gone Like evening arriving, when it was just dawn But still I was happy, and who wouldn’t be When something so pretty your eyes they do see So, I pondered a tulip its petals a’ gleam a reminder of her and that day by the stream
