Girls On the Bridge - Edvard Munch 1899
Girl in green dress that sets off a red head’s fiery nature – In contemplation, viewing the passage of the river and time. Russet dressed lass in the middle holding her head high – uninvolved. Lost dreams mourned with bowed head averted, Scarlet letter of shame mocking the bridal white of the third girl’s dress. On the path leading from the bridge, a black and white house commands the landscape, Near enough to contain the many dreams of the sisters: combined and lost. Trees screen the house with their protective green. Heavenly blue canopy: the cusp of aspirations, Ending the reign of Virgo in favour of Libra. Blue sky is the limit, completing the trio on the colour chart of light. Reflection, as in the water, is always a shade darker than reality; Imagination colours perspective. Drowning in the river of circumstances, Growing anxious as time lapses, Ending up not facing the inevitable square on.
