Stevie Ray Vaughan Inspiration
Stevie Ray's guitar spurred the 1980s blues boom. He wasn't like any other guitarist. Inspired by Buddy Guy, Albert King, and Albert Collins... He linked blues and rock in the late 1960s. He ruled the American blues from 1983 to 1990. Selling out shows and winning gold albums... 1990 saw his untimely death at age 35. Ending a thrilling blues and American rock career. Stevie Ray, from Dallas, picked up the guitar at seven. His older brother, Jimmie, inspired him. At 12, he joined garage bands. Then came semi-pro nightclub bands. Music took him away from high school at 17. Stevie's first blues band was Blackbird. He joined Paul Ray's Cobras in 1975. In 1977, he founded the Triple Threat Revue. With Newhouse and Layton played for Double Trouble. Tommy Shannon joined the trio as bassist in 1981. 1980s Texas clubs featured him and Double Trouble. They joined the 1982 Jazz Festival for Browne and Bowie. Six Let's Dance tracks are Stevie's Double Trouble lead guitar. Jackson Browne recorded for free at his studio in LA.    After Bowie's "Let's Dance", Stevie issued "Texas Flood" in 1983. It was a tremendous blues hit, peaking at 38. Stevie's team pulled him from Bowie's 1983 world tour. Promote his album, stirring controversy. By 1985, it was gold and ranked 31. "Soul to Soul" pianist Reese Wynans got hired at Double Trouble. His 1985 album peaked at No. 34. Vaughan drank and used drugs while his career took off. He toiled in Germany in September 1986 amid his illness. And spent three weeks of the Euro tour resting in the US. The band toured the US in Nov 1986 to support Live Alive. Vaughan opened for Robert Plant and headlined in New Orleans. And toured Europe while recording his fourth album in 1988. "In Step," released in June 1989, won a Grammy. For Best Contemporary Blues Music, went gold within a year. It peaked at 33 on the charts. Stevie and his brother taped a fall album in April 1990. With Double Trouble, he led a late-summer 1990 US tour. They also played an encore in East Troy, WI, on August 26, 1990. Post-show, Stevie Ray flew to Chicago. He and four others were killed in a helicopter crash. just after takeoff at 12:50 a.m. at the age of 35. The Vaughan Brothers' album placed #7 on the Top 200. Family Style began Vaughan's posthumous albums. In October 1991, Jimmie issued a studio cd "The Sky Is Crying".  The album started at 10 and went platinum in three months. The Greatest Hits followed the 1992 live CD. The 2000 four-disc SRV includes outtakes, live recordings, and oddities... What if his life had turned out differently? If I dare to chase my dreams.
