Bathroom Blues Blessings
There was a time when the taps used to shine, and the porcelain basin with pomp and pride, A font where the essential waters of life ran freely, now blocked by the remnants of last week’s make-up, Can’t tell if it’s Revlon or L’Oréal, as limescale has instigated a military coup Finished toilet rolls stacked in a corner, hosting tufts of hair that escaped from lustrous manes, The shower basin has become a ‘mini pool’, with designer fresco mildew for added effect, The floor a classic mosaic of hairpins and elastics, abstract art? Cotton wool balls upset they didn’t make the bin, Unfortunately, no room for admission My eyes widen to reflect a den of devastation, How does beauty emerge from such organised chaos? As I reflect on the last family conference, a frugal attempt to initiate conflict resolution, My thoughts are rudely interrupted, from the waft of the toilet’s urgent plea, “Please place me on top of the agenda this time” Despair will not transport me to a tranquil place, For I am responsible for how I overcome, I close the door, I draw a long deep breath, and count my blessings, Thankful, that they, the young perpetrators, continue to remain by my weary side, in a somewhat unkempt but loving abode 20/11/22 Biggest Blessings competition Sponsor: Regina McIntosh
