I Wandered the Streets
I wandered the streets begging for bread When I woke I cried & cried And rain it washed away my face Each person in the city knew my name When I slept they danced until the sun replaced the moon And rain it washed away my face My father stood aside whilst each one sung When I left my dog was ill and died And rain it washed away my face My mother spoke in tongues of a lost people that were no more I dared not to understand it’s prophecy And rain it washed away my face Now that summer has passed it might never have been When I came here everything wilted and died And rain it washed away my face I had a dream that I was a young child once more I did not wake nor wander far in fear of becoming lost And rain it washed away my face Now all is gone and the close of day draws near All is good and good is all say I And rain it washed away my face I tore out my own eyes with the talons of a crow My own body withered in agony And I could still feel rain As it washed away my face.
