Finding Hope
These dark streets seem empty All shadows, no light But look, there’s a window A candle burns bright This quest makes me weary As decades fly past My first love is gone now Will he be the last? The last man to stroke my hair at night While holding me close No, I can’t believe that’s all there is ‘Cause inside hope grows We may forget how to find it But it lives in our hearts Just follow the path marked “faith” This is where hope starts A new love will find me The curtains will rise Debuting this evening ‘Neath glitter-star skies The emptiness gone now A song’s in my heart But how did I get here? Well, hope played a part The last man to stroke my hair at night While holding me close No, I can’t believe that’s all there is ‘Cause inside hope grows We may forget how to find it But it lives in our hearts Just follow the trail marked “faith” For this is where hope starts July 15, 2020 for John Hamilton’s “Song of Hope” poetry contest (To the tune of “Chariots of Fire”)
