Time Encapsulated Pain
My melanin bar code pain feels like a time encapsulated link chain The future and the past are excruciatingly one and the same And this bleak present is probable cause tense — Just being black in America is a police cruiser death sentence So why should son of Kunta Kinte I really want to make America great again When the year of Martin Luther King’s assassination is what I’m dark side of the moon living in I feel the same degradation spat upon my mother The ‘polite society’ rejection by an Ivory seat ruler I feel the same humiliation heaped on my father Hateful words of oppression be trumpeted louder Pharaoh siren tones heard echoing thru each highway generation So why should stolen heritage I truly want to make America great again When the year of Emmitt Till strange harvest justice is what I’m reviled eclipse skin living in Ain’t no rainbow kind, equality sunshine in this arrested development place Penitentiary cargo hold no! As the Middle Passage tears of grief, tick-tock beggarly, ‘I can’t breathe’ overflow And I know this time encapsulated pain I feel will soon fade to black But, this hurtful truth will still remain, as long as human traffic violations stays the same
