Winter's Wonderland
Looking out on a late night winter's eve, dark night dances upon my window sill. I ponder solace of my working leave and in my rest attempt to muster will. Chores and duties are tugging on my frill. My toil is sure to bring young souls a thrill. I wrap gifts with care to hide them from spies, and tuck them under the boughs of a tree. Secrets from all until seen by young eyes, hidden till morning when opened with glee. The smiles and the laughter all worth the fee, half of the fun; they don't know that it's me. Young hearts of wonder all gathered around, the pace of the morning begins to slow. The hum of discussion a welcome sound, a chance to connect around fiery glow. Friends or of family we come to know it matters not if there is any snow... Wherever you are, find joy in your band, your kin and your friends: winter's wonderland. . . . Poem Info: 1. Written: 12.25.18 2. Written for the "Winter Wonderland" poetry contest on PoetrySoup.com sponsored by Emile Pinet. 3. This sonnet follows the Urban Sonnet form invented by Laura Loo.
