Adventures In a Cobbled Alleyway
Adventures in a Cobbled Alleyway Down our old cobbled Alleyway, Magic kingdom for fun and games. Domain of the Mad Slipper Gang, Let me think, can I recall their names? Wardle and Barney, Leo and Ray, Myself and my brother Young Sam. A fantasy world of Imagination, We were kings of the Rickety dam. Rickety Dam was forbidden to all, Unless an allegiance to the gang. Our Sam would act as look out, On sight of trespasser, a bell he rang. I was the eldest at nine and a half, But Wardle had the role of command. Unelected leader by virtue of wealth, His father played bass in a band. On Monday, Cowboys and Indians, Pointy fingers instead of a gun. Ray wore two Pigeon feathers, He was Chief Pale Face on the run. Tuesday was Batman and Robin, My favourite adventure by far, Leo played our Super hero, Because he owned a black pedal car. Adventures in a Cobbled Alleyway Wednesday was Scout & Cubs night, At the Church Hall down with the pack. I stopped going for several weeks, But decided, I wanted to go back. Cops and Robbers on Thursday, Sometimes it would get a bit rough. Barney was always the Sheriff, Because he thought of himself real tough. Friday night was always special, The gang could play out until dark, Making our plans for Saturday, A full day, by the river and the park. Sunday School, following morning, My Grandparents came around for tea. No playing out on the Sabbath, Wore my best clothes, watched a little TV. Those childhood days I will treasure, Memories of so long ago. I often wonder what became of our gang; Wardle, Barney, Ray and Leo.
