Poem
My eyes open with the morning to witness the break of dawn and we waited quietly in the room for the signal to begin our journey at noon. The instructions were clear and everyone was briefed on what to do before they get there; the lips were tight and the energy was right and we understood what we had to do to get the mission through. Words have a way to betray the flesh, and time sits patiently upon her breast, courage climbs the wall and dignity made them look tall but determination catapult us over wall. The first stage was perfect and everything had gone according to plan and when it was done we whisper a silent prayer before the next phase began. We cut through barbed wire and bushes, and crawl on our belly and hands; we slept in dug out trenches swallowing coughs and stifling sneeze and wrapping the silence around our knees. The fearful night stood up in front of us like giants without compassion, and the moonlight gleams at us from a distance, not a sound could be heard except the throbbing of hearts and faith leading us through the dark. We almost reached the line when gunshots starts barking towards our direction from a distance and voices start echoing from afar, we held on to each other’s soul until the noise cease and we rise slowly to our feet. We crossed over the line and we were on the road again to rescue the divine. I still cannot phantom the passage of time as this thing keep resting on my mind, I take short walks around the property and the devastation made me unhappy, years of identity is buried underneath the rubbles’ and their lives are filled with misery, and if you unravel it your heart will betray you but the truth will abide with you. The more I contemplate the time, the longer it takes to evaporate from my mind, and to cap it all, I had to sit down and put the puzzle together piece by piece until the truth is revealed. It’s good when you can see from a distance what is in the heart of the struggling one. We knew that we had a mission to complete but we keep hiding it under the sheets, the ground was tough the mission was rough and we hardly had any resources to get by but destiny keep pushing us towards the sky. The days get longer and the evenings gets hotter and the morning sun had us on the run and for five long years we were lost in the bushes living on nothing and begging to survive; the flesh is loosened from my body the bones are protruding from our neck but we stuck together until death for a mission that should have been completed in less than a year. Oh how the time goes quickly to fulfill the mission for this arduous journey. The secret pact journey along, the secret pact is big and strong, and courage will compose our song. The secret pact occupies all the land.
