Painting by Daniel John Gadd

Her brush strokes sorrow upon her canvas, as oils drip with sadness. He captures images of silent spirits, drifting in blackness. In her black and white world, her fingers weep with grief stricken strings. He inks poems cleansing his eyes, metaphors veil words his heart sings. In darkness their cries are like wolves, madly howling at the moon. They follow the stars, till light kills their dreams, hopes burst like a balloon. Morning flowers bring no joy, all they see is a garden full of weeds. Storms bring melancholic melodies, it's too cold to plant new seeds. A blank canvas, an empty page, yearn for the return of the muse. Dusty piano, closed camera, have no motive to amuse. When an artist's world lacks colour, absence means a premature end. Wounded souls view life with closed minds, slaying their soul's creative friend.

“ A blank canvas, an empty page, yearn for the return of the muse.” Spot on and very meaningful to me. “The Dreaded Calm” I write of myself as I await “the first hint of passion” I sincerely enjoy the fluidity of your work Darrell

Very deep, almost psycho-analytical, I enjoyed this piece even though you don't write often with rhyme, this one works well!

I like very much how you relate color to creativity. HOw awful to live in a black and white world. How wonderful to be poets and brighten it up.

A sad read but a well crafted write with an unblemished artist's stroke for total brilliance - your 2nd last verse I LOVE SO - without a muse ........ have no motive to amuse and your ending is just the cherry on the top - absence means a premature end........ slaying their soul's creative friend. Both muse and artist thirst for colour to come back into their lives as it fills their poetic hearts and inspires them. Such intense imagery! Awesome poem SO, Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Artist & Muse in a lovely relationship, until happiness turns to sadness; a yearning for colour to fill their lives again. Regards // paul

Sometimes, when the wounds are deep enough or too vast, we may feel we have slayed our soul's creative friend, if not our soul itself. Excellent write ~

This poetry is enough to pull one in to enjoy the wondrous delights of your imaginings. So skillfully you manipulate the mind of an artist with skill likewise of a poet. How enjoyable!

I have found that a lot of artists and poets have troubled minds intermingled with genius. That is what your poem reminds me of with its melancholy notes. Wonderfully composed Silent! xxoo

Hearts that are closed, truly see the world without color. However, light is there somewhere within them. They just need to uncover that veil. Your thoughts always hold a touch of sadness. Loneliness. But, always so beautifully written and presented. ~ Brandy

The last stanza is the epitome of the beauty of your great musing, Silent One! Even in a world of no wonder, the artist would dip their brush into their pain and worries and paint a unique piece of heart and Art! I enjoyed reading your poem immensely.. Regards and blessings.

Your melancholic and metaphorical artistry knows no bounds, Silent One. Emotional imagery saturates the page as much as it imbues the heart of this reader. Sadness shimmers in the golden ink from your soulful pen. Warmest wishes always my inspiring friend.. ~Susan

Without colour and a muse the artists and poet both live in a world without love and hope, a barren environment. So well written S.O. Tom
