Without a Friend
A human being without a friend--
What a sad thing to behold!
Especially when days grow short,
And the world is growing old.
Now, if one were the holder of
More wealth than ten could spend,
Of what worth would such wealth be
To a soul without a friend?
Without a friend beside you,
Where can you turn when life goes wrong?
If at the end, you stand alone,
A mournful dirge will be your song.
