The Cage
The bird flew from the cage
Promising to free its mate
She sat for days in a haze
But there was no word or hello
Their little egg burst one day
Out came a little chick
Mama, mama it went on to say
‘I feel so terribly sick’
It grew fine feathers
And wanted to fly
For air was full of smell of heather
But mama bird would only cry
One fine day wad heard a hello
From outside the golden bars
And perched on them was a long lost fellow
Looking like a shining star
The golden cage vanished in a whoosh
The chick began to fly
The fellow gave its mate a smooch
But from her was still heard a cry.
