Something Sweet
He said "Tell me something beautiful",
He said "Tell me something sweet",
"Talk about the lilacs and the lilies
down beside the water's creek"
But I don't talk about the golden morning's,
The honey dew upon each flower;
I don't talk about the daffodils,
the rosie red's
or the melting sky by evening's hour
I don't mention all the things I've seen;
Alaska's raging open sea-
The endless evanescent waves
sprinkling droplets over me
I don't describe with whis'pry speaking
how lovely are the trees;
The sounds of crunching browning leaves
and the finches singing keys
I don't talk about the cello's drone,
And each perfect note upon the sheet-
I say, "You are my something beautiful.
You are my something sweet."
