Parents

Our parents take us just so far And then we find our way, No longer captive to the rules They taught us to obey. So where we live or what we eat Or wear or do for fun Must be decided by ourselves And vetoed by no one. Our choices may surprise or shock Or anger, I suppose, But that’s the way it’s always been And how it mostly goes. Though parents may expect their kids To their own lives conform, Embracing quite the opposite May often be the norm.

Well sId & asll fitting the news of this week, sure was true of my generation, but, as for opposite, i think that “the age old” evens things more to norms, for like conformity to 10 Commandments…the Tried-&-Truemay actually prove best. Timely, accomplished pen. So nice to meet you. Honor well deserved.

Yup. Each generation busies itself with 'correcting the way of their predecessors.' ... So busy, in fact, they fail to see their own flaws and foibles. And so it goes... ~ Astheworldturns

So true. I just want my child to do better than I. I like the common sense of this poem.
