Mt Blanca
trademark green on white
"Welcome to Colorful Colorado"
me and the Sangre De Cristos
march across the border
and Mt Blanca rises to greet us
smooth and elegant
as a wedding cake
draped with fondant
majestic and proud
above the clouds
in my heart
she strikes the home chord
deeper than
the tourist town
I dip in and out of
it's home-base
she's my home
I don't live
anywhere anymore anyway
but for a couple of months
to babysit a kitten and a pup
I'll breath thin air on Pikes Peak
pan gold on Cripple Creek
celebrate my aunt's 90th
reunite with my cousins
hike some woods
energize my soul
smile and be free
from strange longings
titilatations that don't quite
satisfy
dear home
you raised, educated
initiated
and launched me
into this frenzy
yearning and hurting
I return
kinder than my first love
and fairer than my last
your bosom
buries my sorrow
no shame
nor defeat
do I suffer
in you
just wounds
enough to be made whole
preciosa Mt. Blanca
your wedding dress slips
down bare shoulders
dripping rivers and creeks
refresh
and sustain me
in this odyssey
love swirls about
sunning herself
up around a bend
gazing from the top
of some forgotten trail
singing love songs
in a honky tonk
or pouring coffee
in some route 66 diner
she's the loveliest
sweetest icing
on this cake
Pikes Peak
Cripple Creek
and my
ninety year old
dear Auntie
que' guapa
Mt Blanca ;)
