and I wandered under the stars the balmy taste of wind on my lips a whimsy of love in the air just a few notes unrecognizable tickling the nape of my neck that’s when loneliness embraced me the lover I recognized in the night Submitted on April 23, 2024

This is just how loneliness arrives, in the moment made for intimacy. Writing that 'loneliness embraced me' is the irony of the context and expectation, and then you have repeated the irony 'the lover I recognised...' It is the same reason that getting caught in the rain by yourself is just soggy, but with someone else is hilarious. I'm intrigued whether the character in the poem likes (or finds comfort in) the loneliness, or wishes for intimacy. The irony and ambiguity make the poem linger. J
