"Sonnet - Untraditional" Poetry Contest

Requirements: Each line 10 syllables, Three stanzas (4/8/2)

Sponsor: Constance La France

Placed Second

"One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life. The word is love." By Sophocles, Greek Poet Love, strongest emotion, feeling divine, When life becomes bitter and tough, we pine For a thoughtful hand to hold, not resign, lean on a soul intertwining with mine. When pure Love blossoms, egos disappear, It's an earnestness for someone so dear, A child's eternal love for his mother, A friend's sincere affection for his peer... Life turns cruel prison without love true, Life's harshest moments we do overcome, It's a sublime blessing which gets us through, When sorrowful and anxious we become. Travelling uphill paths of life unknown, I know You're with me, I am not alone!

When life becomes stormy, we look for an an anchor and it is love. Love has many shades.... the love of a mother for her child, the love of a friend and a lover's love all are different. "When pure Love blossoms, sorrows disappear, It's a sentiment for someone so dear".... How true! Dear Mala, this is a beautiful sonnet on love.

Dear Valsa, love your thoughtful, gracious comments. I am more comfortable in writing free verse - it gives me a freedom of thoughts and expressions. Writing sonnet is not easy - somehow managed to follow syllable-count and stanzas. Your visit and comment are so appreciated! Love ~

This is so beautiful and so well written for the theme of love.’ So many lines stood out for me and i love your flawless rhymes! I especially love the lines “ When pure Love blossoms, sorrows disappear, It's a sentiment for someone so dear,“ so true! And well delivered. “ Travelling on the paths of life unknown, I know You're with me, I am not alone!” Excellenf couplet to end this with too! Pleasure reading your work always dear mala.
