Gratitude For Recent Food
In fourteen ninety two
When the sea was first traversed
Europeans discovered food
On the other side of Earth:
Miraculous avocadoes
And the awesome corn of the land
As well as sweet potatoes,
Delighted western Man.
Chili-pepper wonders
Set off a global march
As potatoes eased world hunger
with quantitative starch.
Pineapples were gorgeous;
Squashes grew forth large;
Tomatoes made great sauces
And green beans featured pods.
Flavorful vanilla
And red strawberry gems
Plus chocolate, all-time thriller
From America, do stem.
And peanuts, two per pod
And cashews, and the pecan … —
Let us thank The G-d
For the bounty of the land!
