Constantly Chipping Away
constantly chipping away—
seventeen years of weathering
arguments, differences, rebukes
and then reconciliations
I gave in some, you gave up some
for the smiles in each other’s eyes
opinions, values that we once held tight
we let go reluctantly but gradually
to make us work, to keep the promise alive
erosion of personalities over years
no wins , no losses
just tiny little pieces of you
and tiny little pieces of me
lost forever to
make us whole
