Bloodstones
salty tears from wars fought
overflow, filling an ocean
blood that was spilled, gets mixed in,
staining virgin stones--
or are these lost souls?
time and tide try to wash them off,
but the bloodstones remain--
haunting reminders that one must not forget

** inspired by the "bloodstones" found on Corregidor Island--
these stones literally look like they have rusty bloodstains,
and some say that these are from the blood shed by
the Filipino, American and Japanese soldiers during World War II
-- I was able to get some of these stones before but sadly, I am not sure
where they are now...
today, June 12, is Philippine Independence Day
