Beyond My Sight
I stood upon the edge of a great sea
And watched a mighty ship sail from the shore.
Prevailing winds swept it away from me
Until in time I saw its shape no more.
On deeper waves I sensed it shrink in height
For distance had, in me, made it seem small.
Yet still it sails to shores beyond my sight
With strength and poise that never changed at all.
For though, to me, it dips beneath my view
Above its bow it sees new lands arise.
Where others wait to start my watch anew
Receiving it with fervent, joyous cries.
And this is what it means for those who've died
To know they've sailed across a greater tide.
