Shadows blend, darkened forms melt as the chilling night falls Into the splendor of the unknown blackness, answering your calls. Hearing you calling me from the wilderness of the night. Wandering through the dark abyss, searching without a light. I fear not, of the ghosts and goblins, their presence subdued. Still faint your calls grow louder as my hope is ever renewed. Blindness created by the pitch-black veil I venture into. Mesmerized by the silence surrounding your calls, now few. Step after step I feel the night engulf me, stirring a bravery. Tripping over brambles, surging through this black drapery. Ghosts begin to taunt me swirling around my head. I am not bothered and run through them without dread. Chilled by the cold night air, as it dries up all my tears. Stark silence stirs me as now I realize my worst fears. Solitude wakens me to what night did not allow me to see. My beautiful one you are calling me, from a place I cannot be.

Gosh my talented friend, this was an enthralling read. You have skilfully created a very atmospheric piece - the whole poem actually engulfs the reader as it delves deeper. The intensity lifts the poem off the page. As Linda says, there is immense sadness here as the search desperately goes on for the loved one in the darkness. Darkness perhaps being the feelings stemming from not being able to be where the loved one is- separation, depths of despair. ‘ surging through this black drapery’.

Chris I am so glad you like this one. Another that my muse kinda took over. Some poems just fall into place when I begin to write. Its only once they are finished that I read with some delight that I did an OK job. The ones I struggle with are usually the ones I don't like and go in the not good enough fine in my documents. Its bulging at the moment lol. Thank you once again for your stupendous comment. I am overwhelmed. Your friend Wen.

The concluding stanza where you awaken in the realisation that the dream of struggling to get to your loved one and cannot be where they now reside is a raw truth and heartbreaking. That last line makes an impact. Wow- loved this one and I honestly think this is you at your best. Has to go into my faves. Bravo my lovely xx
