It hovers over the sky. An unidentified vessel of shiny metallic substance.
Surrounded by a ring of lights, it looks like a flat pan silver dish gliding into
our Universe. My thoughts are parked on silent drone mode.
Plastered to the window I drop all pretense of watching through my binoculars
and speak directly to them telepathically, from the vowels of my heart.
" Will you help us, please ! "
Since the virus hit the earth, the world has been like a tumbleweed blowing in
the wind striving to survive and destroy this pathogen that threatens to destroy
humanity as we know it.
I go check on my six year old daughter who is asleep in the room next to me.
All I see are crumpled sheets and a discarded Teddy hanging out of the bed.
"Jilly, Jilly " I yell, as I run through the house. The front door is open but her
shoes are still sitting at the front door. I yell into the darkness as I race through
the empty streets. It is 3 am and nothing living is walking the empty streets.
I find her at the edge of the river bank, on her knees with tears streaking down
her face. She appears to be ok but to be sure I ask her " baby, are you hurt? "
She gives me the most angelic smile and suddenly this heart that had been
lagging behind, suddenly snaps back into regular rhythm. "What is this ?" I ask
as I take the object that is extended to me. " It's a feather from a cormorant
mom" she says. "They gave it to me." I take her to my bosom and squeeze
her tightly. " Let's go home baby, lets go " and together we tail our way home.
To be continued...
