An alarming event
A story about inconvienence and circumstance
Carrie took us on a whirlwind tour into the north east through pensivania and New Jersey and new york. It was a fast and furious roller coaster ride from place to place with little sleep. But through it all we had lots of deep conversation and thought. It was hard to absorb and retain all that we saw and did and most of the information is a scramble. There were times though that even being frustrated and hurried we were left with deep profound moments of understanding. One really funny event that was not funny until it was over was when we stayed at a motel six in New Jersey! Carrie had been driving all day and we got to the motel late and were just completely exhausted. We got to our room and unpacked what was needed and showered and I took the bed on the right and she the bed on the left. Unfortunately motel six rents rooms to elephants and there was a couple in the room directly above us who insisted on stomping around half the night! Then just as we got to sleep a obnoxiously loud alarm started blaring! I got up and looked around dazed in the dark and saw what I thought was an alarm clock and tried to turn it off, only to find out that is was the digital read out of the heater. So I finally came to my senses and realized it was a fire alarm! I got my shoes on and went to the office and a guy from india was there with a smile from ear to ear and I asked " What is going on?" He smiled even bigger and said " people in a non smoking room are smoking ha! ha! ha!" Rolling my eyes in bewilderment at his laughter about the situation I ask " are you going to turn it off?" To which he answered nonchalantly " Oh the fire department will come and do that". So I went back to the room and in my best Indian accent I replayed the conversation for Carrie which had the pleasant effect of making her laugh even though I was being sarcastic and snarky. So I started to laugh to and eventually the fire department did come and shut it off and we got another couple of hours sleep. Thinking back I can see the humour in it all and appreciate the Indian mans merry attitude to the situation. What was done was done and there was no fire and nothing could be done but to thank God that it was not a fire and just laugh.
