Dress Rehearsal Rags
Up to my face she came.
I knew a storm was brewing.
She pointed an accusing finger in my face,
then took a step back and screamed
a tirade of venomous abuse in my direction.
I smiled as I headed into the kitchen.
I took a slow; deep calming breath,
then sat down at the kitchen table.
She followed me into the kitchen, and unleashed
another tirade of hurtful abuse towards me.
She, the High Priestess, baptised me with her wrath.
I picked up a book from the kitchen table
and read the first page,
silence had now miraculously descended.
I breathed in the unexpected ocean of calmness.
Shaking, she sat down opposite me and snatched
the book out of my hand, then asked me
how could I remain so calm?
I told her I wasn't in a vulnerable place
and was performing a Buddhist Heart meditation.
I was mirroring back at her the opposite energy
that she was directing at me,
I told her it always diffuses any confrontation.
Crying, she apologised and held her trembling hand out to me.
I took her hand in mine and gave her a reassuring look.
We embraced, then headed to the bedroom
in excited relief, to become one flesh.
We washed away the storm a few minutes ago.
Life certainly can be a mysterious and unpredictable
drama filled show.
NB: The title is in honor of my hero, Leonard Cohen.
