Touch and Go

I hear my car calling to me, and I feel the need for speed.
I walk outside and open the car door to get into my driver’s seat.
I start up the car up, and I pull out of my driveway, heading towards my exit.
I touched the pedal too hard, and now my speed has gone too far.

I touch the brake, but it is far too late.
I see the lights, the flashing of the blue and red.
I watch him approach with my head hanging low.
I listen to his words about how I have taken advantage of the road.

I throw away my pride, for there was no reason for my crime
I reach for the paper, the record of my wrong.
I look onward, knowing one day I will have to confront my fine before long.
I pick my head up, touch the pedal, and continue to go along.

Touch and Go.
