Dietra Reid Poem
Accents blending in the air. Southern drawl slowly mixing with Caribbean beats,,
Until the energy of the Harlem Renaissance tops it all off.
"We don't like you." Says the wind to the teenage girl.
"You have to much mixture,to much blend. You don't fit into any boxes."
says the rain drop.
"Change, cut two mixtures or else." threatens the lightning.
But to cut even one would leave her vulnerable to all elements. She needed
her full foundation.
"We don't like you." says the wind again.
"I don't care." says the girl.
"You will." roared the thunder.
The blend bubbled inside of her but didn't boil over. It went to slow simmer.
She smiled in calmness not anger.
"At least you dislike me, not a cheap imitation of someone else." says the girl.
Then the sun stood up.
"Leave her alone. She is my real gem." says the sun.
The sun brightened the sky above her head.

Dietra Reid Poem
Cody Road, Cody Road I miss you Cody Road.
You were the road as a child that took me to my grandma's house.
You were the path in Mobile Terrace, Mobile Alabama that I love.
We played in your rich. red clay of your pure unprocessed state,
when it rained as kids on visits.
But Cody Road, count down it was three short blocks in the terrace to
Grandma's house on third street.
You took me to the perfectly, four room, square house on
cement blocks.
A house of love, grace and life that I always belonged.
It's been a long time Cody Road. Life's been kinda hard.
But memories of you and my grandma will forever keep
my heart warm.

Dietra Reid Poem
She appeared in the middle of winter on our
porch. She was the kitten we all fell in
love with. But her true trait was about to
be revealed.
Her antics went from jumping off second floor porches,
to following siblings to school . The biggest scare is
when she went into our dog King's territory.
She dared to walk into the fenced and gated
backyard.
She lost the fight that day. But won our
hearts in the war of courage and lived
another day to inspire others.

But where, oh where is the sun?
The rain has shown up.

Dietra Reid Poem
The square has four equal sides. Whether it is
in North America., South America, Africa, Asia,
Europe, Antarctica and Australia it remains
the same. From the highest mountain, deepest
Undersea lake to the most luxurious valley it measures
the same. No matter the holder, or the way it
is turned by life's challenges. global integrity
is it's namesake.

Dietra Reid Poem
My great uncle and aunt had a fine love.
Uncle Clyde and Aunt Lucille were their names.
Over a decades times five was shared glue.
Two very different flows they overcame.
She was as soft as a ball of cotton.
He as rugged as the edge of a cliff.
Still waters and fierce currents went bobbin.
They blended together smoothly as if.
One hand held the other. both being gray.
For one, hospital bed replaced their bed.
Her sweetness still the weak smile of ray.
Then she was gone. would grief over run thread?
At her goodbye, he told me goodbye too.
Told me he had nothing more to pursue.

Dietra Reid Poem
I use to think being mature was acting more this way or that way. But then I learned it is when you stopped acting and started being.

Dietra Reid Poem
The saga began decades before.
Desperation sometimes leads to temerity.
But who can judge another's motivation?
We only see their actions and hear their words.
In the aperture of plans there is the foreshadow of defeat.
But inside the marrow of them is hope.
Time changes the nuance of the implementation just a little.
The results may seem barren by all standards.
To be still, while slowly slipping away is extremely difficult.
But quick sand often pulls you further down if your struggle is
intense.
So a peaceful calm may mean survival.
However, that was yesterday's dilemma was it not?
