She Speaks, Too

Eyes bright, back straight and tight
Head held high, what a guy
Detriment, excrement
Wiping at the dust that's in your eye

Shame, embarrassment
Your pose is rather obvious
A too large smile, a wracking laugh
Mental storm tempestuous

There's no way to hide
Who you are inside
Not very well
Not for very long

You can try
To write your feelings down
And turn your pain
Into a song

But can we take
These angry Demons
Trade horns for wings
And angels make?

Can we turn our ears
From angry cries
And do what's right
For it's own sake?

Can we light a lamp
Of understanding
Shedding light on mistakes
That lie in our past?

Can we hold
To bright ideals of truth
Lean on strength unseen
Yet, a strength that lasts?

Can we spear ahead
Through ranks of doubt
Arriving sound
Of battles made?

Can we tenaciously
Seek dreams
Whilst enemies hound
And daylight fades?

Can we ultimately
Find peace
Final words
Having been said?

We can!
...I think we can...

Hearken to an angel's cry:
She said, "Wasup?" And a smile bloomed on your face.
And morning, though late, unfolded lightly in your heart,
Even as demons raced to make her words dark.
But she sits with me; she is there, presence comforting.
She spoke because she saw my tears; wanting me to know that she was near.
Thank you, my angel. I wish I knew your name.

What Will Tomorrow Bring

I lie here awake tonight
Waiting till the morning light
Anticipating what will come
When day dawns and brings the sun

Fantasy will always reach
Farther than realities grip
But the universe fails not to teach
Us what we need for this long trip

I used to live a life most fearsome
Everyday dreading what will come
I'm not sure when this did change
Now I look forward to the sun

What will tomorrow bring?
A new chance to play and sing?
A beautiful face graced by a smile
Inviting you in to stay a while

Working hard to live a dream
Is not as hard as it may seem
When your moments are filled with joy
And your gifts are fully in your employ

Tomorrow what may come to pass?
Goals achieved and success at last?
Or another chance to prove yourself
That you live now and not in the past

What will tomorrow bring?
Something that means everything
As the future becomes more clear
Hold to those that you hold dear

Dangit

I swept the floor, but it's dirty again...pretty much what I expected.
The accumulation of dirt and grim is something safe to have projected.
If cleanliness is a thing which one truly desires
Then cleaning is an act that never can expire.
Objects long to air exposed become receptacles of dust disposed.
Dirt of itself does indeed deface, yet everything has it's own place.
Emptiness seeks to fill it's space; cleanliness seems imposed by our human race.
Yet it's kind to the eye, I can't deny: a shiny floor scrubbed soundly with lye.
Reflection glimpsed, a sweaty smile; arms crossed tiredly on broom over tile.
Floor been swept, job now done, I think one deserves a break.
Tools shucked, apron undone, now's the time for leave-taking take.
But while you're gone, worry not, for the floor dirty once again becomes.
So, rest assured, my dear friend, for the job will always need be done.

While You'Re There

When you arrive
All those there should strive to make you smile
And be ready to sacrifice their chair
In the hopes that you'll sit and stay a while
And see you happy every moment that you're there

While you're there
A drunk poet sits there unprepared
To express the beauty of a lady fair
But being the kind person that she is
She gives him ample time to declare

When you leave
All of those there who care about you know you're gone
And they pray your absence doesn't last too long
And they wonder at the moment you'll return
For your happiness and presence do they yearn

When you're gone
I think of you and erect a fantasy
Of you sitting there next to me
And amidst the laughter, a moment when our eyes meet
And we lean in and share a kiss so sweet

A Song Sung

Because life is a short and fragile thing
I'll take the time to play and sing
And because life is dear and lasts only so long
I'll spend my days in games and song

Not a day goes by where I'm not face-to-face
With the joy and the strength of the young
And I pass not one day's embrace
Without hearing a song that is nearly sung

Each day will take one soul away
From me, so I'll cherish whom I am among
And the things that come so easily
Will bring pain before my song is sung

As it approaches what matters is made clear
And no thought is wasted as it draws near
With purpose I seek and hold to what's dear
And to be forgotten becomes my only fear

There is no way to know the last day
So today I will play and sing
And love and cherish whom I am among
And never forget when a song's been sung

Music

An extension of my spirit
Sometimes too soft to even hear it
Harmonious cacophony
Close your eyes and let it be

Tapestries of silver thread
Scenes of where I now tread
Where many others have gone before
Steps too loud to be ignored

Flowing through the divide
Finding where hearts reside
A picture of a place in time
The sound of who we are inside

Succeeding where just words fail
To illuminate and part mind's veil
Changing both heart and soul
Restoring and making whole

Let

One day you may come across a thrill
Just dip your cup, and make sure you take your fill
Rest assured, one day it may all come to an end
Such is the fate when anything begins

There's no need for false humility
Playin small never serves anybody
Try and get out of your own way
Only you keeps you inside today

Recognize your weakness, see it as a strength
Strength to go the distance, no matter the length
Grit your teeth and come out form where you hide
Cast your eyes to the skies when they finally open wide

Let no curse or word of praise obscure your path
Listen not to reason, pay no mind to math
Let the light envelope both your heart and soul
Let your blood ignite and consume you whole

And let no fear or man stand in your way
Let no criticism discouragingly dissuade
Invite resistance, conflict breeds new ideas
The realization of a dream is a universal panacea

Try

I am not going to die
Without having tried
What they say is a lie
I'll keep my eyes to the sky

Though what I see is beyond reach
I'll stretch out my arms and God beseech
Blessings rain down and I'll count each
To those who doubt, I'll have something to teach

I give myself to destiny
With all my heart I will believe
Crouched down on bent knee
Please God give me what I need

I need to know and find my way
Sand in the glass drains away
All I may have is today
Please God give me the words to say

And shut my ears to those I hear
Give me the peace that defeats fear
Lift me up, wipe away my tears
Let me know that you are near

Time is short, but I will not fail
To new shores I now set sail
Come lightning, rain, wind and hail
With Your strength I know I will prevail
