Be Yourself

BE YOURSELF

Be yourself
Avoid comparison ,
Be Satisfied ,
Remember the deprived .

Be yourself
Look at the handicapped ,
Are you not blessed ?
Count your blessings !!!

Be yourself
Don’t be someone else.
Your opinion of you-
counts more.

Be yourself
Ignore others judgement,
Who you are-
That matters.

Be yourself
Your life journey is yours,
Others need not decide,
Stick to your principles.

Be yourself
Born original,
Be original,
Do not die a copy.

Be yourself
Better to be ignored,
Than to be admired-
For something you are not.

Be yourself
When you are on your own path,
No traffic will disturb you,
KEEP BEING YOURSELF.

Autumn Leaves

AUTUMN LEAVES

"Autumn Leaves", red and gold
Until they fall and fade
The experiences gain through beautiful spring
Up to the end of wonderful Autumn
Makes no difference either in season or human
Non can surpass the stages destined by the almighty

Loving thoughts of the young days
Earn eternal joy and pleasure
A memory that can be preserved with pride
Varies in mankind and nature
Everlasting happiness and greatness along with
Sweet memories last till the leaves wither away

The Sea

THE SEA
=======

I stood at the shore and tried to see the end,
I knew it was of no use and no one ever saw it,
Like the sea our life's end is unseen,
Waves go up and down uncontrollably,
so our lives face ups & downs beyond control.

I stood on the beach and watched the moonlit sea,
Oh! it is great to watch the calm waves sway,
What a peaceful atmosphere it creates,
When a man is calm and collected, peace engulfs,
Happiness surrounds, great experience found.

I left the beach thinking of the wonders of creation,
Why the waves turn to tsunami and volcano,
People are like sea, calm today, in turmoil tomorrow,
No one can predict the volcano eruption and tsunami,
How similar is the actions of man and the sea!!!

Jaffna My Jaffna

JAFFNA MY JAFFNA
===============

All I could see from where I am now,
Jaffna my birth place,
Core of my heart.
So I took my thoughts six decades back,
And saw the beauty of my beloved land.
Dear Jaffna ,It is beyond words
Your natural beauty,
Paddy fields in the villages,
Peasants’ beautiful huts,
Surrounded by great palmyra trees,
Fruits, fresh vegetables,
Especially Jaffna murunga,
Oh what about tobacco,
will anyone ever forget these?
I could touch them with my hand , though
You are miles and miles away from me,
But your beauty and glory,
Never left my thoughts,
Clock tower in the heart of the city
Schools built by the missionaries,
Fantastic Cashurina beach in Karainagar
Keerimalai pond- public bath in Sri Lanka,
Not hot spring but divine water,
Marvellous holiday resorts,
Religious festivals,
Famous Tholakatti Nelli crush,
Managed by Catholic nuns,
Cement Factory in Kankesanturai,
Point Pedro Light House,
Always attracted the organisers,
Of the school picnics.
Jaffna Public Library, great in Asia,
Well built Dutch Fort,
Beautify the land in every respect,
Unity among people,
Above cast, race and religion,
Rare sight these days,
Oh, Jaffna what a life you offered!!!
These were the things that bind me,
I could not forget any of them,
I may not see you again,
My love is yours for evermore.

Goodbye Corona

GOODBYE CORONA !

Corona, where are you, what are you up to?
l am longing to say farewell to you,
A final farewell, you doom bringer!
I am not alone in desiring this,
But speak for every dweller on the earth!

You are wrecking our lives rapidly;
We are not toys for you to play with!
I intend not to beg, but command you,
The sparkling stars, so welcome, appear at night,
But YOU come any time, any space, every where.

Many are unfortunate humans,
Touched by you, engulfed within your domain ,
With aching bodies, hacking coughs and high fever,
They are at your mercy, desperate to say goodbye,
Whoever parented you will answer to God!

Fear of you is changing cultures;
Afraid to hug, nervous to shake hands,
Many in the world press palms together,
And greet one another with a ‘Namaste’
But I say not “Namaste” but “Goodbye “forever.

God and I

God and I
========

I have not seen Him,
But I know He is there,
I know He guides me,
and leads me,
I am not worried about anything,
anyone or any atrocities.
Because He is by my side.

I always feel him within me,
I have kept all my sins at his feet,
 He will forgive me.
When I feel tired and weak,
I know He is there to uphold me,
For the world I may be a lonely person,
But it is not true.
Because He is by my side.

Autumn Leaves - Group of Ten Old College Mates

AUTUMN LEAVES-GROUP OF TEN COLLEGE MATES
==============

Summer ends, Autumn comes,
Days become shorter and shorter.
The green in the leaves fades away,
And red and orange take its place.

"Autumn Leaves" is a group of ten leaves,
Sprouted at Peradeniya fifty five years back.
Started meeting once a month with pot luck,
Each leaf gets a chance to host the others.

Though past the biblical age for humans,
"Autumn Leaves" function well and ably;
Readings, games,chats enliven our sessions,
"Autumn Leaves" enjoy their meetings.

Nature reflects our diminishment;
Leaves and flowers fall away,
And clouds move like our illusions,
Rivers become frozen like our lives.

Autumn passes, Winter enters,
One's remembrance , one's self-esteem.
Autumn leaves may wither away,
But it's memory and glory will always stay.

Where Is Peace

Where is Peace?
============

Accept failures bravely ,
Bestow love abundantly,
Convey ideas correctly,
Delete jealousy completely.

Eliminate problems wisely,
Face challenges boldly,
Guide friends properly ,
Hurt no one intentionally,

Intensify goodness wholly,
Justify facts strongly,
Keep your mind openly,
Lend advise timely.

Mince words carefully,
Never help reluctantly,
Oust selfishness totally,
Peace will be there gradually!!!

Ode To Hilda

ODE TO HILDA

( Hilda - Women Hostel at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka)
                     -Mathi - Warden-

By the river of Mahaweli,
Along the Galaha Road,
Stood the Women's hostel,
With the name Hilda Obeysekera.

Eight winged Massive Hilda,
Steered by Aggressive Mathi,
Harboured the damsels of the nation,
Striving to achieve their goals.

From various walks of life they came,
Lodging together under the same roof,
Forgetting their backgrounds & differences,
Accepting Mathi as their mother of Mothers.

High table dinners, parties, and girlish follies,
Are few experiences Hilda offered,
Social life was just an alien myth,
But Hilda made these teens to learn and live.

When My Life Ends

When my life ends

When my life ends I shall not take
Any of the treasures I struggled to make;
The wealth and riches stay behind,
When I am called by the maker of mankind.

I worked hard to make a house of my own;
It stays where it is when I leave the world alone.
Though I call it mine and praise its worth,
It is left alone when I leave the earth.

The family I raised, do not go with me,
They stand around me and watch me.
When the task is done in this world of our birth,
God takes us one by one from the earth.

I wonder very often, just what shall I own
When I leave and go alone.
What survives me when life is ended?
Only the good name I earned!
