Bullworth

Orange tan conceals
the whiteness of the ghost
subtle cackles sound

You’ve got to be a spirit
cries mystical rastaman

He stumbles along
still offering redemption
to those fading ghosts

The song silhouettes the sky
Spirit can defeat the ghost

Trampoline

No yard complete without a trampoline
Ebullient leaps sloppy and pristine
Gloomy weather turned upbeat
Mesh giving way to bare feet
A vision as sweet as a jellybean

Opportunistic Omnivore

I’m an opportunistic omnivore
The game’s been called survival
I eats what food I find

A Tear In My Eye

A tear in my eye
the taste of brandy lingers
warming glow in my belly

thoughts of you drift through my mind
content smile emerges

Body Count

The casualties rose
We couldn’t keep a body count
mass graves dotted the landscape

a toddler screaming
countless villages ablaze
unholy despot glories

nuclear seared ground
mustard gas permeates air
rancid poison is swallowed

no hiding spots found
drum tap of the machine guns
decimate remaining dreams

Reggae Lilt

I see 3 little birds
landing softly
on the bird feeder

and it’s hard
not to hear
a gentle reggae lilt
in the background.

Unused Parking Lot

Unused parking lot
inspires another one
as urban sprawl

becomes the new normal
paper bag dances in wind

You Can Lie To Me

You can lie to me. That’s okay. I’ll probably figure it out and no one will really get hurt. But you keep lying to yourself and that’s really an emotional and psychic cancer. But like a portrait of Dorian Gray in the attic, you’ll keep the deterioration hidden from view. You know the cancer is spreading but it isn’t visible so you can smile and I can pretend. And the pain and the depression continues and it deepens. You refuse the surgery that can remove the tumor. And the lies just get deeper but you’re only really fooling yourself and maybe some mindless social media followers who don’t care about your soul.

You can lie to me
but if you lie to yourself
the disease will spread

eating away the spirit
your internal organs first

Complete Stop

come to complete stop
a sliding stop doesn’t count
police out in force

violators get busted
justice in form of ticket

Sheepish Smile

That sheepish smile
disarming a gruff poet
coyly offer hope

my Bridgewater seraphim
kick back wine like a sailor

 for K.C.
