My Mother's Song

My Mother’s Song She would sing to me the times that I cried, She would hold me til my eyes were dry. Simple words meant to soothe and succor, Words so sweet, sang by my mother. “Hush my child, don’t you cry. I will care for you til tomorrow’s nigh. Let your problems flow from you to me. Relax, feel them go, feel them flee. All will be well, everything’s alright. I have them now, they are gone in the night. They can’t return, no longer a concern, Banished now, never to return. I have you my child, I love you so, I’ll love you forever, that you know. Sleep my son, no need to weep.” My eyes drifted closed as I fell deep asleep.” Those simple words took away my fears, I knew I was safe when she was near. No matter what my troubles were, I knew I could always count on her. Throughout my life I remembered that verse, They carried me through when times were adverse. Softly I’d sing, my mind drifting away, Remembering my youth, those precious days. Time has flown, now I care for her. She’s old, infirm, most things are a blur. I hold her close, whisper soft in her ear, She hears my voice, and knows I am near. “Hush my child, don’t you cry. I will care for you til tomorrow’s nigh. Let your problems flow from you to me. Relax, feel them go, feel them flee. All will be well, everything’s alright. I have them now, they are gone in the night.” They can’t return, no longer a concern, Banished now, never to return. I have you child, I love you so, I’ll love you forever, that you know. Sleep my mother, no need to weep.” Her eyes drifted closed as she fell deep asleep.

Love Lost, Regained

Love Lost, Regained I love to relax under the trees, Sit in the shade cast by their leaves. The wind sighs softly through the air I find I’m left with nary a care. Out in the fields the tall grass sways, Singing a song, carrying me away. To a time when days were spent leisurely, Love filled the air, it surrounded me. We were fortunate souls, my love and I, So naïve, innocent, we were so shy. We thought we’d be a couple forever, Then came a day we were not together. A freight train in the night took her away, Her death shattered me, our love seemed to sway, Now alone, how was I to survive? Yet her love carried me, I found a new drive For something came in the air tonight, But was I ready? Could I find new light? My heart felt love, a whisper in my ear, “Go my love; live; love, and endear.” I’ve found new love, my heart once again soars, I feel renewed, new love to live for. It’s with her blessing, permission if you will, But no matter who I love, she’s with me still.
