“No notes,” the teacher said to us,
"and there's nothing you're allowed to discuss.
This is a pop quiz,
to write an analysis
of what to do when someone with a gun approaches our bus."
Where's Jack Nicholson?
Where did he go?
Is he dead yet?
Does any one know?
Wars, and opiates,
mass shootings and debt,
and that potential nuclear threat.
Is this truly as good as it gets?
One might end up with Tourette's,
as good as it gets..
Old Glory’s at half-mast today.
I wonder who just passed away?
Was it a hero from some battles past?
A dead leader whose influence lasts?
Were servicemen killed overseas,
Or humanitarians died fighting a disease?
Seems most of the time I don’t know why
The Colors only at half-mast fly.
More and more it seems to be
The flag’s mourning some local tragedy:
A lunatic shooter with a gun or rifle
Killed innocents for some reprisal;
Or people contemplating suicides
Go out committing multiple homicides.
I think the worst is killing schoolchildren.
Will this obscene madness never end?!
School Shootings
Miracle Man
6-6-2022
School shootings can never be unseen,
they’re scenes, which children never forget.
Real life pictures that became obscene,
forcing children to live their lives in regret.
An evil person, their innocence has stolen,
young hearts now become filled with fear.
Sleepless nights, eyes red and swollen,
recalling daily those whom they held dear.
As a Chorus of Angels, May you rest in Peace
The Almighty God will render you Justice
He will welcome you all in His Kingdom
Where there is more Liberty and Freedom.
You’re now done with racism, injustice, pain
Hatred, discrimination, hypocrisy and bigotry
With the grace of Jesus, your death is not in vain
God will punish the evils, and the bad seeds of this society.
Your brothers and sisters who are left behind
Will forever love you and continue to fight
On your behalf. You are the beacon, the light
Of a better tomorrow, for being so kind.
As a group, you stood in front of ugliness
Who shall never win the righteous battle
You are now sitting on the soft saddle
God will forever bless your likeness.
As a Chorus of Angels, May you rest in Peace
On a golden plate, God will render you Justice
Welcome you, and protect today and tomorrow
Your Brothers and Sisters who are in sorrow.

With all the towns and cities we've got,
where can you go without getting shot?
Another fool went on a shooting spree.
This time, at a Federal Express facility.
The city was in Indiana called Indianapolis;
eight persons dead and many wounded because of this.
Another sad episode we hear about on the news.
Yes, the senseless murder of persons continues.

Another mass shooting has occurred in America.
This time, it happened in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
A doctor, his wife, two grandchildren, and another were killed by a gun.
A former NFL player was deemed the culpable one.
That player was found dead from a shot self-inflicted.
This was a tragic event nobody could have predicted.
How many more unfortunate victims have to die?
It leaves many shaking their heads and asking why.

Another gunman opened fire and went wild.
Among his four deceased victims was a child.
It all happened in Orange, California, near Los Angeles.
Many people are outraged because of this.
Why have there been numerous shootings like these?
I'm afraid in the near future, there will be more fatalities.

Virginia Beach, Virginia is a popular spot.
With a beach and a boardwalk. it's got a lot.
So many nice days can be spent in the surf and sun.
Bring the whole family where they can all have fun.
It seems like such a nice place as any can be.
However, it is not immune to violent activity.
One Friday night, a shooter killed two and wounded eight.
This makes one wonder when shootings will abate.

A tragic mass shooing has occurred once more.
This time, in a Boulder, Colorado grocery store.
Today, it seems there is no safe place to go.
Incidence of gun violence seems to grow.
The number of murdered victims amounted to ten.
It looks like we cannot keep this from happening again.

There were some more hate crimes the other day.
Eight unfortunate victims had their lives blown away.
The murders happened at spas around Atlanta.
This is the largest city in the southeastern state of Georgia.
It seems Asian-Americans all over our nation
have been targeted with crimes and racial discrimination.
This has culminated into an unfortunate growing trend.
It seems racially-motivated hatred will never see an end.

I went to a public school near Denver
(pre-Columbine). School then felt more like home
than home, and the real tests were never
on paper. We were Rocky Mountain grown
and no one gave a what we did at school
as long as we showed up and did our best.
Sometimes friendships didn’t make it out of first period
but our sandwiches were always split 3 ways by lunch.
In the off case it wasn’t, we handled it beyond the track field
next to the pop machine, two fists and a bloody nose,
or a handful of tangled apple-scented hair.
We were never confused about how to settle disputes.
Now they’re all anxiety riddled and scared
wondering if their pop machine runs semi-automatic.
