The Payoff
What is the price of the peace we obtain?
Through the years of discontent
With constant catastrophic pain
Although later on in life
We bare the wisdom from it all
Was it worth the years and severed ties
We carved into the walls?
The ones we built to keep our burdens
Hidden from the eyes
While slowly sinking lost and drunken
Into a grave of rage and lies
Was there ever actual peace to obtain?
Or was this all a lie?
I’ve seen what love had to offer
Then watched it pass me by
The ways of life are always worse
When you have a heart to break
With constant catastrophic pain
Every “love” I found was fake
The only time I honestly smile
Is when I see my little girl
The sun rises over her
And sets behind her own little world
I’m just happy to be in it.
