Cracked Fingers
…scars of light
in dark earth luminesce
through bend and fissure
seeding pain
between cracked fingers
that claw for air
like crows
beneath the mortar silence
etch in deft strokes
dreams of the child?
the child in dream?
well, two are one in the same
it would seem
…scars of light
on shards of fire
rise in early dawn’s
formless void
the halls of the mind
draped in trellis-shaped
thickets of hungry lilac
solitude born
burns the fuse of new pain
trips within
the melting skies
clots the sun
then liquefies
…scars of light
crosses cut on wet
and crooked roads
screaming into shadow
night and flesh disavowed
discreet and flitting dance
beneath the marrow dim
upon windows
traces rain
into branches vertical spread
fearless
by the wind
pushing cold waves in me
under the smell
of mud and death
kill like the sea
