lifeguard on duty
has cheerios for breakfast
tossed like lifesavers
baby blue swimsuit
lifeguard working hard at pool
in deep near drowning
slept on dunes
midmorning waking to seagulls' cries
lifeguard's oceanic kisses
he was unaware
wolf
which was disappointing
never attempt to move or donkey punch
the empire state building
ten years of planning
ten years of shrooms
ended with puppets
and strings like cave cheese
and shreddies
we were alone in the pool
the lifeguard looked like
satan's gumdrop
layered like pie
and like a puppet on a string
junk socks and dutch rowboats
i told reception it was my first time at this pool
i was told i could use my token for the locker
i told reception again it was my first time at this pool
an overchlorinated swimming hole
I stood on the mountain top
I wanted to see all that I can see
I looked down in the valley
I saw my life unfold before me
I looked up at the sky
I saw GOD smiling down on me
I said thank you LORD
for showing me how my
life use to be
I streched out my hands
for GOD to take hold
I said thank your LORD,
I saw my blessings unfold
I walked down from the
mountain top
with tears in my eyes
I said thank you LORD
for being my LIFEGUARD
you alone knew
I was a long way
from my shore
a foot…a lifetime
reality is ruthlessly cold
there can be
desperately empty
times in your life
deep water blues
nowhere to go
a sea of loneliness
simply unfathomable
to those who
pretend to believe
the abandoned heart
holds its rhythm
that lovers can always be
good friends for ever
running on empty
no one to turn to
you alone knew
that waves of pain
have flowed through me
from dusk to dawn
I was drowning
no shoreline in sight
you reached for me
the lifeguard of my soul
