She got to live, he didnt

She got to wake up the next day
He didn't.
She got to live her life
He didn't.
She got to have her own family
He didn't

She lied
He didn't.

She admitted to the lie -
No repercussions
He was a black boy -
He got murdered

Carolyn Bryant,
A murderer
Emmett Till,
A victim

The courts awarded her due diligence
His family fled in fear, that it'd be repeated
Leaving their home, scared they'd be targeted
Their home a ghost to a child evicted
A system built to allow racism

Premium Member Got Me Under Pressure!

Pressure...is a lot like Lemons!

It can leave a sour taste in your Mouth,

Tho, it can also guide you down the...Primrose Path!

But...on the other side of the Rind!

It can also leave a sour look on your Face,

Till, it's heavily paved and becomes an...Eternal Highway!

I Got Energy Always from Your Verse

Your words arrive like dawn’s first flame,
A gentle spark, yet never tame.
They touch the chords I guard with care,
And lift my soul through open air.

The maps I hide, the dreams I keep,
Awake within me from their sleep.
Your verse reminds me light must flow,
To those whose hearts will help it grow.

I see the mirrors you have drawn,
The truths that guide from dusk to dawn.
Not all deserve the gift we give,
But still we learn, and still we live.

Your fire reflects, it makes me whole,
It nourishes always the hidden soul.
For every ember that you ignite,
I vow to guard and feed its light.

So take this answer, firm and true:
I gain my strength from lines like you.

Premium Member One That Got Away

It's been years since we spoken
Most things hadn't changed at all
Our youth had started to dwindle
But her beauty It could not fall

Back the we had big dreams
Though the we could change
I laugh when think about them
They are optimistic and strange

The one dream I had back then
The one I wished had come true
Was to be in love and stay forever
I wanted to spend my life loving you

To this day you will always be
That one lover that got away
And as I look at you right now
You're just as beautiful today

Premium Member I said, 'Since I got my brand-new dentures today'

I said, "Since I got my brand-new dentures today,
can we maybe try some new adventures today?"
She said, "I think I have to wait a bit ~
That new smile! I just can't get used to it.
So, let's do the same old adventures tonight, okay ~
after we pray?"

The chains are still there you've just got to look closer

Stalked all their life
Stained by a crime not committed
A permanent mark on black skin
A reminder how we will never fit in
Labelled as criminals
Despite being exonerated

Probation was for those in need of reformation
Not those who already good behaviour
But any chance to stereotype
The oppressors will take their chance
To keep the invisible chains of oppression are locked in and secured
A way to surveil those who now walk in the light
Constant checkups, now a normal routine
Having to ensure their record is squeaky clean
Being suffocated by the fear
Of breathing wrong
They'll do anything to keep us behind bars
Freedom they promised, yet freedom we haven't received
Being watched doesn't equate to being free
Especially when we still hang from the trees of your critique

You can't claim slavery ended when we are still slaves to your constant surveillance
Not when incarceration is used as a way to keep us hidden
Not when we live a life of normalcy
Yet are still followed
By the law that claims to help
Yet shoots us as soon as we open our mouth
You can't claim it ended when we live under the power
Of the white man

Premium Member I Got You Babe

Your spot without you standing there
Could never be the same
Even if it's occupied
By someone with your name
There's only you, your rightful place?
Mic 3 up on the stage
And in my heart you've all the mics
I strum for just you babe

EVERY FAMILY GOT ONE

Every family got one
That one family member who
You won't invite to the cook-out
Because you know that they'll
Do something stupid to turn it out
And pissed everyone off, might
Even cause a fight to breakout
Every family got one
That one family member
Who's the jokester, who sit
Around and tell those tall tales and
Have everybody laughing even
Though you know they're lying
Through their teeth
Every family got one
That one family member
Who's greedy and tries to suck up
All the liquor knowing they can't handle it
But tries anyway
And falls on everyone even the ground
Every family got one
That one family member who
Tots off plates of food
To their car claiming not wanting to cook
The next day but you know that they're
Just being hoggish over food

I got lucky

A weary worn out start to the day.
Things to be done seem too far away.
A sip of coffee, a pill or two.
Get on the phone to talk to you.

Up and at it and on my way.
The game of life is now at play.
I arrived on time as arranged.
I walked in, my luck had changed.

An angel stood there ready for me to meet.
She kindly greeted me and led me to my seat.
Some days God shines down on you.
And basking in the light is all you can do.

The choices we never got to make

A life of false happiness
Or death by defiance
They claim we have a choice
But what kind of choice is a life of imprisonment or a death penalty
An eternal life of isolation
Or an eternity of nothingness

With choices like that who needs control
Or to be caged by manipulation
For us the ideal choice
Would be death
To go out on our own terms
A slight chance of freedom
Because who would want to live a life suffocated by fear
Or is the other option better
Where we exist in an eternal abyss Of unconsciousness

Why for us can't we have peace
Instead of fighting for equality
Everyday is a struggle
Living up to expectations unattainable
Where being black automatically means
Scrutinization is part of the clause
Irreversible
And every move we make is questionable

Is this our shared legacy
Where acceptance we are hungry
Where we have this ache for a different history
Or at least have the life those before us wanted in our line of ancestry
To live a life where the burdens we are forced to carry
Are taken away so life will not be so heavy

i still got sum

We all wish for something more than what we see,
We’re all searching for a place where we can be free.
With every step we take, the stakes are high,
But we lift each other up, make our spirits fly.

The Letter said

Dearest Tenser:
Told you I would write you about the weekend.
Pray for them flood peoples and all. But got some news for ya.
She used a chrt to list the men she'd been with. We sat in the dining hall listen to her presentation. It was right before the BBQ.

She went inside and started cooking. Acting like everything was done on tth grill. I didn't say anything when people arived, holding my tougne. That Gal from Dizzies showed up. Dressed like a street thang. Netted jacket, netted pants. "A show stopper one peice", we told her to put Duct tape over the Specail treats cause our men freinds were here. She did it. Got mad when some one said something about it. Well back to thee BBQ. Miss Thang did the cooking. Had Short ribs with wine sauce potatoes and mushrooms. It was good. She cooked the short ribs in the crock pot for six hourss
and smoked a BBQ sauce on the smoker
and and tossed the ribs in
when her company arrived.
Acting like the whole thing was done
outside.
I stood laughing at her
write me back:I gonna meddle into why these pole choose us to be audeince to them.
                                                              Sincerly Your Tenser
