I felt nothing
though I noticed
blood
a faint trickle
from my pinky
down the side
of my hand
along with
a slight
swelling
thought
unworthy of
my attention
Do we understand
Can we begin to imagine
What it's like
to live over there
Where drinking water and toilet water
come from the same source
Where trips into town
are by donkey or horse
Where babies are more likely
to die than to live
Where life's path is fixed
determinative
Where rice is the one meal of the day
where anopheles mosquitos hold sway
Where 'hope' is a dream that ends at dawn
and a grave marker a pillow to sleep on
We read about it
a moment of concern
Shake our heads solemnly
as the world turns
there is stain
stainless stain
none sees
stigma bin niche
in the heart of my rose
the youthful rose
road to road
lane by lane
the fragrance
comes with virginity
of wile
will-o-the-wisp
the lace of writing
makes the attire
makes the disguise fire
on the Tyre of living gyre
respectively to the pyre
in the bier
not as the dead
but as the withered leaf of winter
in the wisdom of love
in the womb of chaste
heirs on the astray
habeas-corpus
hackles on the verbose anonymity
anopheles drinks
taste blood,
gyves the pathos of beautification
demise crawls the path of sagacity
no enmity
on the road of poetic procession
yet, the youthful rose
hails the decease of blood
in the nerve circulation
and circumcises the head of pen
in time........

“Buzz buzz”, the anopheles shrilled the night
As with hunger on grasses, they slumbered without light
Babies, held against skeleton milkless breasts
And gnashing teeth, the men in dispiritedness beat their chests.
The greybearded simply await their knell to toll
And in agony, the brisk and spry watch their fall
As they, starving, grow thinner and thinner
Fully aware they would grace the coyote’s dinner.
Kwakwa, my village smokes no longer
Deserted of people and animals even to the border
For the peasant farmers of this poor village
Now repose at the mercy of Biya’s heinous rage
Pa Bossom’s charred body graced the stake
For being asleep while others, awake
Beholding red, took to their reliable heels
As bullets battered the meek and echoed over the hills
From Bamenda to Buea I now repose
For my life has no purpose
As biya’s gun dictate when I flex
Myself, I keep asking ‘when would I be next?’
Suck blood like a vampire from a strange empire ,
Not invited but invite herself,
Pass through tiny holes and mesh of the net to
Set her proboscis on the skin…
Night crawler and unwanted flying creature ..
Dances around your earlobe to infuriate you..And ..
You end up slapping your ear with a big bang..!
Her piecing mouth part sends strong signals to
the brain which can make the sane to be insane ..
Fever is the outcome ,running temperature is his friend ,
And headache the mother..of all murders….
Anaemia plus lassitude will pay you a warm visit ,
Leading to excursion to the doctor’s home ;
Lab test shows plasmodium or salmonella…or …what?
Carried by this vector or rector called female anopheles…
....Mosquito.......

Address to miss mosquito(A free verse pun)
Miss mosquito why?why do all these?
your species-Anopheles breed freely,
And ours are hindered with impunity,
You multiply and feed on our haemoglobin,
Which decreases and weaken our demoglobin.
Can`t you be rational for a moment?
You introduced Mr.malaria into our world,
Which is spreading like wild fire
and has made many to be fired,
Anti-malaria remedies are powerless and vain.
But why!why!!why must you do this to
our world without a word?,
A perfect remedy is around the corner,
which will soon put this toothache to rest,
so as to have a permanent rest.
It is better to dye than to die,
Mosquito treated nets are here,
watch out!miss Anopheles or Another felix,
To be late is preferable than being the late,
The clock is ticking and thinking,
It`s going to be better for the better.

I Slept with a Female Mosquito – part V
Anopheles! I, take my sanity, gaze at her.
Evil alter ego and Calvary spar; right in my heart
Crash her, splash her
Red birthright on the white.
Yes. A dense dark mark of her red. No – my blood
Yes, my blood and I’ll be glad.
Walk tall and yell Eureka. Spilt from the bucket!
Killed a quito dead. She dared touch me at night.
The demented pest! Decimated.
Appraised; The PS did it!
I Slept with a Female Mosquito
(part III)
Honorable Adjudicators.
How did she enter? Anopheles!
Oblivious, she trailed me?
To my chamber, stalker – to my bed, bawdy
Sneaked in my quilt
Skirting –
The radar of my eye
The aerials of my ear
And the tax of my hand
So, she, at the dead of the hour
Far from the clock
Infesting, invest in –
My ears, my lip, my neck, what pleasure!
How did she? I long – how long did I entertain her.
In my still time, comatose slumber; torpor.
I scrutinize the net; intact – tight, that night.
Edge to edge, head to head, end to end
There were no moles. The net, bridal new.
Anopheles! And you think I will let you go?
Scot free! Unpunished! Shame!
Part of my bloody pint in her.
A Permanent Secretary
I Slept with a Female Mosquito
(part II)
Thoughtless, it perched
The hollow leech, insolent bloodsucker
Sardonic radiation of the red mine; mine!
Psychedelic distress; wily mistress
She, nude, proudly poses pregnant
With my blood! I am drained
My blood. Myself. My! Fever
What’s my blood group, thief! I have no idea…
Where did you bite, vampire! My body itches…
Touched the jugular? Flying carnivore –
How many jabs administered, Anopheles!
Silence; mute, not a word, something is long!
Very long; That’s not bright. Wrong –
This fellows don’t respect the Permanent Secretary
A P.S! … what treatment, a P.S!
In a retreat, at the beach; I will not retreat
I Slept with a Female Mosquito..... By Peter Onyancha
(part I)
I Slept with a Female Mosquito.
Waking up, Good morning, but goodness!
Stupid lewd fly; family of the blood sucker
Fretful, I study the plumped mosquito
My science talks to me, unfaltering
My eye bulges and I nod, I see, I understand
Pretentious snout, proboscis, piglet wishes, I nod
Crooked legs, Ague grass hopper
Supporting a red load, Oh lord
Overladen rotund raw bottom, I see
Drooping head, like a sniffer dog
Satisfied silence, night accrued quietness
Anopheles! I scream –
She clutches tighter on the net; what next?
The scandalous vampire, ague hawker
A female mosquito, Anopheles
I lay flat, you lay fat
Goiter! I slept.
