CALLING ALL SAINTS
No matter how you look at it…in this picture we’re trying to paint… our world…our canvas will always be filled with devils and with saints. What makes this difficult…as we take out our brushes and sit down to paint… Is that we are humans meaning we can be both…a devil and a saint. The news is filled with stories of devils…the wars they start, the hateful and distorted views they express… The malevolent vindictive nature of their actions ensures the devils get more press. But I believe the world has more saints than devils… In fact, I believe saints abound… To prove my point turn off the news and take a look around. Saints are all around us…showing their compassion and concern. They’re the ones who are helping others while asking for nothing in return. People who by their simple random acts of kindness show others that they care. People who smile while holding a door for another person… a baby stroller…a wheelchair. But it’s more than just a smile…and holding or opening a door a saint is anyone who makes you feel a little better than you did a moment before. It’s any person who shows you kindness…and the moment they are gone… makes you want to take their kindness…and kindly pass it on. Yes, it may sound trite, it may sound corny…even whimsical or quaint but a saint is any person who…makes you feel like a saint. We all have this decision to make…as each day we sit down to paint.. do we want to be a devil…or would we rather be a saint… We need a world where the news is filled with stories of benevolence, Where peace and joy and love for all…are the views we freely paint… A world where we all work hard to say goodbye to the devil inside us… and welcome in our saint.
