Sailor song, my version
You saw me in a softened light Like something you could hold too tight But baby, I’ve been breaking slow You know, you know You kneeled like I was everything But love don’t come with angel wings And what you wanted, I’m not sure I owe You want me kissing on your mouth and loving like a sailor But I’ve been lost at sea and I’m no good at being braver You think I’m holy, but I’m haunted by your favor And every time you touch me, I forget I’m just a stranger We get a little dirty, and we’re right back where we start You sleep so you can find me, but you’re pulling me apart You sleep so you can find me, but I’m buried in the dark You put my fingers to your lips Like secrets wrapped in sinking ships And swore that no one else had Stuck quite like that I tried to numb it down with space But nothing ever takes your place Even pain, you wore it like a badge You want me kissing on your mouth and loving like a sailor But baby, I’ve been drowning, not a fighter, not a savior You say I’ve got you covered, but I’m shaking underneath I sleep so I can leave you without saying what I mean We get a little dirty, and we wipe away the truth You sleep so you can see me, but I’m not the same to you You sleep so you can see me, but I never sleep for you We could run away to every room inside my mind You’ll be the danger, baby, I’ll pretend I’m fine We’ll laugh at all the things we swore were by design We’ll stay until the silence starts to blur the line
